Looking at just the DCSB 4x4 V6 A/T, a few (and only a few) negatives stand out compared to the Gen2.

One, payload drops from 1280 to 1120 lbs.
Two, curb weight jumps from 4220 to 4480 lbs.
    Three, approach/departure/breakover declines from 35/26/21 to 32/23.5/21
    Four, M-S-R-P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other than those the Gen3 looks to be equal or better in everything else. NVH is improved, that's a big deal. MPG improved, big deal. Engine power delivery/throttle response improved, big deal. A/T improved, interior improved, transfer case improved apparently (the old one did struggle moving back and forth from 4HI to 4LO).

I like the new step bumper, looks like you can get half of your foot onto it instead of toes only. 4 and 7-pin plugs by the license plate. Stronger 8.75" rear axle, carryover suspension but strenghtened/enhanced this and that.

A few dislikes - shorter side windows than the already too short Gen2's, fuel tank still 21 gallons, no 8-way power driver seat, weird looking color schemes on the interior (red/caramel/orange trim? Please)

I won't complain about the tow capacity of 6400 lbs since the tow ABILITY has probably improved with better torque delivery at low RPM.

It's an inch deeper. It's the same insert but the caps and fenders are taller so from the bottom of the bed to the top is an inch higher than the current gen. I have photos from NAIAS that I can post later when I get home showing this.

The 7% / 1" difference is in the form of the plastic cap that joins the bedside and bed together.

    2nd gen with thin cap

Screen grab of the 3rd gen with thicker plastic cap thing. I circled it in red.

Also the front wall and tailgate are now flush with the side rails instead of recessed down.

Not in the market now, but I have to admit I'm disappointed, though not surprised, by the new Tacoma. I have owned several Toyota's, and I know how they are, but I hoped they would finally keep up with the competition and surprise me like they did with the Venza interior. Wrong. 1 USB port up front? No USB or 120V ports in the backseat area? Manual front seats? Really, in 2015? And they did nothing to increase legroom in the backseat? When the front seats are all the way back an adult can not fit back there. At $38K + for the Limited, that's totally unacceptable. Honestly, if you put this truck and the new Colorado in a blender, you would come up with the perfect mid-size truck. As it is, all choices leave me wanting.

That could draw down Tacoma sales. It has an appeal to folks that are not into offroading but want the fulltime AWD with a truck bed.

The Ridgeline is a truck similar to Donald Trump's comb over. Put it to the test...

Looks the same to me. What's irritating to me is they not only raised the bed (by whatever means) but also made the side windows shorter to match the bed height. Truck looks like a chopped '34 Ford coupe. The Gen2 side windows were already too short, now they got one inch shorter. I guess that is why there is no seat height adjustment, why bother.

There's a lifted Ridgeline in my area. Doesn't look bad. Doubt it leaves the pavement though.

    What are you on about?

The window size hasn't changed, it just looks shorter because the B pillar is black. The current models the bed line fell below the base windows, on the 2016 it is above the base of the windows in line with the rear window base. The bed got DEEPER by extending the walls of the bed upwards by using a taller cap on the fender walls not by raising the bed up.

The side windows are shorter, been confirmed in reviews.

    Yep
It's enough of a truck for what many suburbanites need. With Honda's quality and reliability, the recipe is there. We'll see how it can deliver.
