Is the OR options worth getting??

I'm going to attempt to start a thread that is free of trolls and any haters. While I respect your choice of truck, please respect that some many not have the exact same taste as you. With that....

Currently I have a 07 DCLB Pre.. I have build my truck (personally) pretty close to what I would love to keep forever. 3" lift (non spacers and blocks), sliders (that I have actually had to use, just put on a Pelfrey aluminum bumper & ISF Skid, and even swapped out the LSD for a ARB air locker.

Really all that is missing for (my) perfect truck is the 4x4. In Hawaii, I can 85% manage fine with the locker..

In terms of SB vs. LB, LB fits our family lifestyle better than a SB. I know that I can always ride with the tailgate down (if needed), but again, for all aspects, LB is better for our family. Any new truck will be a 4x4.

The biggest thing for me with the 2016's will be MPGs. Where I live (up a hill), I currently get about 13-14.

After seeing that the new ORs will come with crawl control and the terrain select, I am now thinking of getting a OR and just having to suck it up with the SB. I know that with a 4x4 LB I can always (down the road) swap out the possible LSD, but with a brand new truck, that would be definitely down the road.

Is the terrain select and the crawl control worth getting and pushing me towards a SB?? Or is it more hype than actually "needed" to stick with a LB?

I think the 4R's have had this crawl control knob for a few years, no? If so you should ask around on those forums and see if they're hot shit or just gimmicky electronics (that 60% of people on this site bitch about)

As far as I'm concerned... It's all hype until consumers start putting the "new" truck through its paces. So, if you don't want to buy into the hype don't buy for another 2-3 years.

Locker has got my ass out of some spots where I don't think the truck would of made it out of without it. I have 2x4 so I think its a must have for any 2 wheel drive truck.

I personally wouldn't move up solely on the crawl control and terrian select as you can do the same thing with your feet. Reading your post it sounds like the only real advantage for you would be the mileage.

If the mileage is significant then consider it. If it's basically the same then keep your truck that you've already built to your specs...

The Rear Locker was the original reason I only got the Off Road TRD 4WD in the years 2000, 2005, & 2009... Then with the newest truck, discovering A-TRAC as an end all super system with locker-like traction on ALL 4 wheels... well that was what made my 2010 truck the best of all three. Still have the rear locker, but A-TRAC out climbs it as the spinning is stopped on the front and both those tires actually work to pull you ahead!

So, the answer is YES, IF YOU GO OFF ROAD, and want security if traveling alone (ie. nobody to pull you out of trouble).

The terrain select and crawl control are just gimmicks that can be replicated with driving skills. They are just controlling the throttle and brake for you, nothing else.

Wish we could have gotten more things that made a real difference instead of gimmicky electronics, ass warmers, and a go pro mount. How about putting all that money into better coatings on the frame, or thicker paint on the body, or less plastic instead.

Toyota moved it to the headliner of the truck. It's where it would be if it was in the 4Runner.

Sorry.. I should have mentioned.. Any new truck will be 4x4. (just fixed my original post), so with that it would be:
4x4 LB - No crawl and terrain select
4x4 SB - With the above..

The other pic that showed the headliner controls and the locker button there didn't have the ATRAC button in it either

Are you aware that there is a DCLB TRD-OR option now? The inferno red truck they show in one of the digging-out demos is a long bed DC 4x4 off-road. You can get the LB or SB in the TRD-OR so there's no giving up crawl control etc, it's just a matter of preference and it sounds like DCLB TRDOR is for you.
