I had these in my old WRX, loved them

 

Did you connect to the battery using a ring terminal?

Lol, i guess it doesn't matter since you're just putting rings on battery terminals now that I think about it.

I also used L brackets and bolted one side into the cross beam above the radiator in my wrx...not sure if the Tacoma has similar empty holes to use. Worked perfectly for mounting the horns from though.

No relay necessary.

Drilled holes to fit studs for aluminum crash bar. Extended postive oem wires. Grounded other terminal to other crash support stud.

 

The directions on the first page says to run #87 to the horns. Do I need to actually splice two wires coming from the #87 relay so one goes to each horn?

 

So you got them to function properly without the installation of the provided relay?

Are you happy with them? After watching a couple videos they seem kind of high pitched to me

 

I am. I needed/wanted something louder than stock. Without having to go to the level of train horns.

One horn is a high pitch. One horn is a low pitch.

 

Only one person has mentioned the Sharp Tones which came out a couple years ago. If the Supertones are too high pitched/Euro for you, you can consider the Sharp Tones which are lower. I'm installing them today.

I just finished installing the sharp tones and IIRC it sounds similar to stock, but it doesn't sound all that much louder. However, I'm in a small neighborhood so I didn't lay on the horn and I was in the cab, not in front. I'll have to experiment more and make sure they're both working properly.

On a side note, someone commented that one OEM harness has two wires and the other has one. I investigated this and it's because one horn is connected to the other. The OEM harness has a white/tan wire that goes to the right horn (if you're in front of the truck). The white/tan wire is crimped to a spade connector in the harness plug, together with the green wire, which then runs to the left horn. The green wire is only 6" long, inside a cable sleeve and a bunch of electrical tape which makes it look beefier than it is. So if you remove both OEM horns, you can tap into the green wire, or just pull out the green wire and tap into the white/tan wire, it doesn't really matter.

I tapped into the green wire (left horn) since I just had to cut one wire to cut the harness plug off, which means the harness plug for the right horn is still there... which now has me wondering if I can just plug the OEM horn back in and have three horns...

 

Thanks for the write-up OP!!! Followed all the directions exact for a quick Friday night project. These horns spew the brown note I am pretty sure... Definitely loud in person especially if you are right in front of them! They will destroy your ears in a garage... Very happy with them!!

Sweeet! did the same to mine but used heat shrink for the bare connectors. I had mine sitting the same as yours but they sounded even louder beside each other. Just used the second bolt from factory bracket and the 3 thin supports that came on the back of the horn. Found mine on Amazon for about 48bucks though. I think that included shipping. A lot of times I have checked amazon and they are cheaper than the automotive sites depending on product. My wife thinks they sound wimpy, "they just don't sound like a truck". They will get the attention of idiots though.

 

They're definitely directional. If you're in the line of fire (i.e. jackass in front of you) they will get your attention! They've saved me many times on i45 in Houston

 

They are a very sharp cutting directional sound. I was surprised how hard they hit if you are directly in front of them. On the side of the truck they aren't very strong and the tone is quite Volkswagenish.

 

Glad i found this. Just wired up my sharptones. From what i read they are a little deeper and not quiet as ear splitting loud as the supertones but still damn effective and leaps and bounds louder than stock.

 

Hey Guys, kinda new to the forums here, but not a stranger to vehicle hobbies. I have an issue tho, I just purchased the hella tones a perrin brace and a harness for installing and I have a wiring question. I have two stock horns and im not sure which wires on the stock harness are the positives to connect. The harness kit I purchased has a built in relay and has a red and black pin like connector not a spade connector, other than that I can install the rest just fine, for now I mounted the horns just havn't got the electrical hooked up. attached is a couple pics and the ends of the wires im supposed to connect to stock wiring, just not sure how. any idea?
