Solid Axle Swap on a 2016 Tacoma

For any of the brave out there in planning to do a solid axle swap and a 3/4 link rear conversion on a 2016 Tacoma, do you plan to get the base SR model 4WD, and work on it from there? Reason why I am asking is because even in the SR5 models and up, there is a whole bunch of techno stuff that one has to deal with when trying to do an SAS.
They include: Rear parking sonar sensors, blind spot monitoring systems, CRAWL Control, and Terrain select.

I feel that doing a solid axle swap on any 2016 Tacoma model SR5 and up, will be a lot more difficult because they put in so many technology on these trucks, that except for the SR model, they have virtually become on road luxury trucks. What do y'all think?

 

Looking forward to seeing the 1st 2016 SAS Tacoma...hopefully with CRAWL control enabled.

 

Can't see buying a new vehicle to just mess it up.

 

No manual trans in the SR model...no self respecting person would do a SAS swap and it not have a manual trans/twin cases...

 

Should be just the same as any 05-15 trucks

 

I would anticipate a healthy amount of black tape on the instrument panel to be a cheap and effective fix for all the technology and sensors..

 

Basically, in a sense, disabling those techno sensors as if they do not exist, as well as making sure that the check engine light does not come on.

 

You're yanking everything else out of the nice new vehicle...you might as well yank out the tcase also. To hell with the toyota factory crawl control.

I mean if you are doing a rear axle swap to a Dana 60 72" WMS-WMS to fit in a long travel rear coil over suspension, there is no need to mess wit the front other than put a long travel front setup

 

I have seen several builds where they keep tone rings to keeps lights off and still have features work.

 

This would not be referred to as a 'Solid Axle Swap' - atleast, not in the forums I visit.

 

Its a rear axle swap, I meant to be able to fit in coil overs out back without going inside the frame. In other words, mounting coil overs outboard. Is swapping the rear axle easier than doing an SAS in the front?

 

Do you have any information , i've called everybody and can find nobody to make straight axle for the Toyota with the tone ring. I called all pro, Dyna trac , currie and nobody has a solution for the electronics. Thanks for any info

Who the fuck would buy a $30,000 truck and immediately do a SAS?

 

Solid Axle Swap generally refers to cutting out all the IFS components on the front of the truck and putting in a solid front axle. Google it..... You'll be amazed at the amount of work that's involved.

Anytime you swap a solid rear axle for another solid rear axle....is a cake walk compared to cutting out the IFS.
I've never messed with the IFS, but I have swapped two solid axles on a jeep for a pair of Dana 44's.

Anytime you swap stuff...anything is possible. You can make it as simple as you want or as difficult and complex as you want. Depends on how much cutting, welding, fabricating, and design you want to do and what the end result could be. Street legal? Road worthy? Trail worthy? It could be a nice clean perfectly drivable piece of equipment or it could be a hacked up mess that won't drive for shit.

 

However, if you swap rear axles, don't you have to rework how the speedo is able to determine the speed of the rig? Reason being is that I saw this.http://www.rocksolidtoys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164

 

Do like the jeep builder guys do... get a 2wd then put the axles and t-case you WANT in it.
