So im in college at UNCC in north carolina and i am living at home. Im majoring in Civil Engineering Technology, I pretty much hate it. Its ok but im not really enjoying it. I think i want to change my major, but i dont know what to change it to. I had thought about Criminal Justice but IDK.

Ay suggestions for majors, I dont like to write very much, and im decient at math.

And after college Im thinking about Joining the Navy, and going to OCS (Officer Canidate School), Has anybody done this?? What is OCS like??
How do you get into it? Requirements?

    Thanks Guys

first off do not go into criminal justice, it seems like many guys and gals are going into this now a days so id say jobs are going to be very competitive in the upcoming years.

as for something else to go into, i cant help ya much. you gotta decide what you would like to do or have fun doing. i was going to be a mechanical engineer, had a full ride to wvu and passed it up for a 2 year power plant technology degree. im now working in a power plant making almost $26 an hour.

i believe you have to already have a 4 year degree to get into ocs or you have to attain that degree as an nco (non commissioned officer). if you want to be an officer in the military try to get your degree now. itll be easier to get it now than it will be trying to go to college and be a full time nco.

good luck with your decision man

I'm 27, have a masters degree (which is completely unrelated to my bachelors) and still have no clue what I want to do. I also don't know anyone that has a clue what they want to do. Very few people know what they want to do in college and then follow through with it. What I thought I wanted to do when I went to grad school is no longer appealing to me. I've considered the navy and air force but decided that's just not the place for me. You might think I'm a little nuts with how often I change my mind on what I want to do. My current boss doesn't know what she wants to do either. Now I'm looking into buying a business.

So good luck to you in figuring it out. Try not to specialize, unless you know for sure that is what you'll be doing, in a major because if you don't like it, then you can't use it for anything else (hence my dilema). I'd say get a general business degree, or the ol stand by that a lot of college students use, communication.

stay in school. switch your major if u hate it but get a degree in something. then u have the option of entering the workforce or joining the military as an officer if u still want to. being an officer in the military is an awesome career from what ive seen.

I'll tell you what, I wish I would have switched out of engineering early rather than later. However many law enforcement agencies come to our engineering job fairs and say, "if want to enter into law enforcement, DO NOT major in criminal justice. We would rather have engineering majors than criminal justice majors". They seem to want people who are taught to think logically working for them. However if you want to enter law school, criminal justice is a good start.

I also highly considered entering NUPOC (nuclear propulsion officer candidate) program. It is a fantastic program that will pay you very nicely and set you up for a stellar career. I decided it was not for me, but I still highly recommend it to anyone

If you like Math and not writing......you can always go the Business Degree route......it is a very versatile degree and allows you to use your math skills.

Yes as of October 1 the Military at least the Army will not take you into OCS without your degree finished, in the past they allowed this but because of deployment demands it is harder to finish said degree....

Here is my recommendation...Join ROTC or the National Guard, finish your schooling, Guard helps pay for school nicely..

Ultimately finish school and figure out what you want to do.

In my line of work Network/Telecommunications Engineering we interview a lot of people with degrees from all walks of life, what their degree is in really doesn't matter to us...It's experience and now days Industry certifications that weigh more then the College Degree..

But having said all that and as a Navy & Army vet.....GO INFANTRY!

I would suggest you go into you r local Navy recruiting office and aske them about the NROTC scholarship. If you're considering a career as an officer why not get your commision right after you get your BA intead of doing the college thing then try to do OCS. Kill 2 birds with one stone. But what do I know I'm just a Sergeant of Infantry Marine :D

Take it from someone who is at the end of his career.....do what you love to do first, period. Whatever it is, from basket weaving to rocket science, you will find a way to make a living out of it if you enjoy what you do. If you're not happy, you will never be successful.

I agree with the criminal justice degree. If that's what you REALLY want to do, do it. If you're not sure, I might go with something like business or engineering, and you can still be a cop with that degree. Most LEA's want degrees, period. It doesn't matter what degree you have (my buddy just went through a whole process, and has a business degree). Get a different degree, and if you become a cop you have something to do when your 20-25 years are up! Miliary career sounds good too, but that's a big decision as well. Either way, the title of this thread made me laugh.
