Looking only at the '16 SR5 4x4 V6 DCSB A/T, MSRP is $31,960 w/dest fee. Add $650 for the tow pkg, $32,610. 2016 includes many features standard that were option packaged on the 2015 SR5 (cruise, fogs, intermittent wipers, slider, keyless entry, backup camera).

    A 2015 SR5 V6 4x4 DCSB A/T, with dest fee, with Convenience Package for above features and tow pkg, $30,555 ($28,235 base + $1435 + $885 dest).

Difference of + $2055 for the 2016. Still get less payload (minus 160lbs), higher curb weight (plus 260lbs), decreased approach/departure angles (minus 3/minus 3).

The 2015 is a great truck but it's going to feel really dated if you have the opportunity to sit in them both. It is a 7% price increase overall and in strictly scientific* terms it is more than 7% better. This isn't just 2015 vs 2016, this is 2005 vs 2016. You get a better engine, a much nicer interior, and better fuel economy. Just as an example once you get used to having actual information on your instrument cluster, only having an odometer is going to be like stepping back in time. The cabin should be much much quieter. Then shit that should have been there but never was, like a locking tailgate. And of course the most important thing of all: go pro mount.

Fortunately we live in wonderful times where this decision is even a decision. Within a few short months you'll be railroaded into the third gen anyway. So just do nothing for a couple months and then you won't have to decide.

    *not scientific

This is the exact option I'm trying to decide on. Between the dual cab v6 '15 or waiting for the '16. Hard to decide!!!

Does anyone have any experience with what a better air filter, better exhaust, and maybe some reprogramming can do to mpg's? I know we're all disappointed with the figures that were just put out, so what are some ways we can increase them ourselves?

Toyota locks up the ECU programming tight, so anything that comes out will be a piggyback option as far as tuning for mpg goes.

....OK...I'm not exactly sure where to post this question...as there are so many similar threads on here...so this seemed like as good as any?...:help:

...What my hope is that someone here can please explain to me WHY Anyone would buy a TRD-OR model...and NOT get it as a 4x4?....o_O

...I mean....the 4x2 is an option....but WHY?.....Seems illogical to get All the specific off-road capabilities...and then basically nullify them by only getting a 4x2?...
...Or am I just missing some application or particular situation where this configuration would be useful?...:notsure:....I have tried to come up with sumthin here....but just cant get it?...:annoyed:

...Aint tryin to start an argument or shit-storm here....just hopin y'all can give me a good reason Why this configuration even exists?....

Towing a boat. The locker comes in handy on slippery launches.

The locker will also get you out of a muddy parking lot at a fair and the such if you live in an area where that is common but snow isn't.

Desert Prerunner style vehicles don't necessarily need 4x4 if they are going to be running the sand at high speeds and the lack of 4x4 simplifies installing long travel suspension a bit.

Some people just don't want 4x4 for whatever reason but want a locker for just in case. Not to mention the OR sticker looks cool :notsure:.

I suppose a big deal between 2015 and 2016 is you'll get a much quieter cabin with the 2016. And the dreaded driveline shudder Sweers says is gone, gone, gone. Nice little LED display center of the dash, locking tailgate/glovebox, better transfer case (which was a PITA in the Gen2), nice select shift 6spd A/T.

You don't get ALL the same capabilities. Multi Terrain Select, CRAWL control, and such are specific to the 4x4 off road.

Some people still like to have the upgraded suspension, wheels, elec. locker, etc

Just did the down payment on a black TRD sport 4x4. This will be my first Tacoma after being a long time Frontier driver.

New to the forums here, been lurking awhile but I have a question for you guys. Is there anyone who has found photographs of the SR5? I wont be able to afford the TRD PRO or the Limited but those are the only pictures of thenew Tacoma that I have found. Were is a page for us poor folks that can only afford the lower trim Tacomas?

Just a note, the last truck I owned was a 2001 Frontier that I absolutely loved but had to sell it when I bought a house and started a family. I have been in gas sippers for years now and I am finally in a spot where I can get back into a midsize truck and the Tacoma is the goal. I didn't like the short bed at all on the Frontier and I didnt mind the 4x2. I dont want to make a mistake when I buy because I am buying for the long haul so really my only struggle is 4x2 or 4x4. I am getting a double cab and a V6 LB for sure so I have the utility when I need it and the family can pile in everynow and then when we go camping. So anyone on here think the 4x4 is worth the extra $$ both price and a little more $$ at the pump? I live in TX and the only dirt road I may go on can be easily tackled with a sedan, and occasionally I have an icy commute in the winter....thats it.

If you don't get 4x4 and you ever need it, you will regret not getting it. If you get it I doubt you will regret the slight up charge for it. That's what I'll say.
