Why custom build the turbo kit from the ground up instead of a supercharger kit that's already pieced together from someone like URD? Seems like a lot of headaches in your future.

It's easier. I build it how I want it, and save thousands in the process. I already have a turbo, I have the manifolds to modify, and I have a larger TB on the way to allow more air into the intake.

I need to get plumbing, an intercooler, various lines, BOV, adjust the waste gate for lower boost, get the electronics and tune, and a higher output fuel pump.

3 people at work have used eBay air>air intercooler and plumbing kits with no issues, so that's about $150-250. Oil line and coolant kit is $89. Haven't priced out BOVs, fuel pump is $140 IIRC, and tune should be around $800 with the electronic components.

URD supercharger kit is $5,600 plus install.

I would think tuning the ECU properly could cost some cash if dyno tuned. Also, what about fuel injectors?

If you want a BOV, make sure it's upstream of the MAF if you want to vent to the atmosphere.

I paid $550 IIRC to have my car dynotuned from an existing basemap using AccessTuner Race. It made all the difference in the world, giving me a nice safe tune to work with.

Alex, if you're cobbling together a turbo setup, add in a good quality set of gauges to go with it. I'd recommend oil pressure, boost and maybe add in a wideband setup to keep tabs on things. Do they make a controller that can read knock? That's a quick and easy way to check up on your tune.

Alex, for a toy, I'd say go for it but not for a daily driver, at least that's my opinion. Custom building a turbo setup can be fun but also bring a lot of headaches. if you get a bad tune and fry your engine, that 5,600 tried and true kit starts looking pretty cheap. Again, just my $0.02 but I wouldn't Frankenstein together a turbo setup on a daily driver.

Just a thought at this point.

And I'm gonna do waste gate instead of BOV.

It's all very true, and I'm not disputing this. Shouldn't be too bad to swap in a rebuilt 1GR...... :drevil:
