The air doesn't seem to blow out as hard as it once did. Is it possible to upgrade the blower motor in my 2002 Tacoma? Possibly with a blower motor from a sequoia or 4Runner? Something with some more power behind it.

    Any advice appreciated :thumbsup::spy:

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
May just need to be charged or your A/C pump may be going bad. I'd check those things before getting into it too far. I don't see the 4Runner setup being any different than the Tacoma.

a fan is a fan is a fan, there is not one that is going to blow more air.

either its low on Freon and ice is blocking the airflow threw the coil or it has filled with trash that worked its way into the fresh air ducts and that is blocking air from passing threw the coil

first, pull the blower out and feel in there to pull out anything in there that has built up over the years, if its a lot as has been there a long time then it might have to come out to be cleaned.

check Freon first then if that's not it, then pull the evaporator out and clean it

First I was thinking the resistor is going bad but now I'm not sure.

what year is your truck? asian vehicles started putting cabin air filters in vehicles between 1998 and 2002. you may just need to replace it. usually just fully open the glove box, and there should be a short but wide trap door that you can open and pull out the element. they do like to collect a lot of crap. personally, i never used one. even with my 06.

Usually if the resistor starts to go you only have high speed on the fan. A fan only runs one speed. Lower speeds are gained by the resistor taking power or ground away slowing down the fan. When resistor craps out it usually it not effect the fan from blowing on high.

I have an 03 that blew cold, then started to notice that it would get warm for awhile and then back cold. Finally put gauges on it and my high side was ungodly high like 375. I had something come apart inside and block it somewhere. I ordered a new compressor, reciever drier, expandtion valve, and o ring rebuild kit for system. Just waiting on it to come in. I suggest checking it with gauges.

no need for the compressor but I "suppose the valves may have been bad causing the system to be overcharged but a set of gauges would have told you that right away, all the rest was a good investment and most likely it was a clogged drier or restricted expansion valve

I agree but mechanic friend who has the vac system suggested compressor too. Really was to bad on price because I bought a package deal of all of it

We watched gauges for a while. Ran fine and cooled good. Then you could watch the high side pressure slowly start to climb. While it's 100 in Texas, 375 on high side is way too much. Finally it would build up enough pressure to dump and go back to blowing cold. Until it climbed up again. Going to flush the system just to make sure we get it all out, whatever it is

that sounds like excess moisture in the system causing ice to block the expansion valve then break free under the pressure.

if the compressor was bad it would have high low side pressures and low high side pressures meaning the suction valve isn't sealing to "suck" the Freon in. if the high side valve goes out it wouldn't be building any pressure.

you may have been perfectly fine to just replace the drier then pull a good long vacuum on the system before recharging it

Well no filter, I already knew that. Is there a way I can make the fan faster then?

hook 12v straight to the fan to bypass the speed resistor relay if its not faster then when on high speed then its time to pull the evaporator out and clean it

Update: My freon level was at .67. I recharged it to 1.43 and its ice cold but I don't know if it's gonna blow faster after a long drive yet. I'll update tomorrow night

well if it was half low then you had ice forming on it and blocking the coil so that's why you weren't feeling much airflow

I'm really hoping so. I live in Florida so AC is something I need to work perfectly
