For those of you that have had the manual tacoma is the MPG that different from the automatic? I want to get the manual (love the manuals but my FJ was automatic ). But the MPG difference between the Manual and the automatic had me having second thoughts. Also, Would you choose the TRD OR 4x4 or the Sport 4x4?

@cgalloni I am still having my arms up in the air over the MT vs AT over similar reasons since @OZ-T and others mentioned how superior the AT is over the MT ... although the MT is so much more fun, its almost worth the 1mpg penalty or whatever. Also in regards to the TRD OR or TRD Sport, that's a whole other topic. So many decisions with that question.

    TRD OR DC
    Toyota-Tacoma_TRD_Off-Road_2016_1024x768_wallpaper_01.jpg

    TRD SPORT DC
    2016-Toyota-Tacoma-TRD-Sport-4x4-1062-876x535.jpg

Just right there is a huge difference in the look of the two, among all the other features the have.

I know it is a tough decision. I think exactly the same way as you. The Manual is more fun to drive and I think is worth losing the 1mpg, but i am also concerned about the complaints about the manuals having troubles with the bearings, well this is a new manual we shall see. As far as the OR or Sport, I think I'm more inclined towards the sport. I really don't need craw control and beefier suspension and I think I like the looks of the Sport better. Also i don't like the black mud guards on the OFF road models. I had the Fj and those things tend to fade and look nasty after a while.

Yea, we have very similar logic in regards to the new 16' Tacoma, haha, not many like us out there. I am literally torn between these 3 things now....

    (1) AT vs MT https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-gear-ratios-at-awesome-mt-now-with-double-overdrive.387347/ . This OP has the specs of the two on that.... I like the fact the 6th gear churns such low RPM @ highway speeds, which is great for MPG. Again its an auto and not as fun to drive.

(2)TRD OR vs TRD Sport : Basically you dont get the ATRAC or whatever specialized traction system, beefier suspension, and the rear locker in the TRD OR. The Sport gets of course all the exterior goodies you know about. I like how they hid the hoodscoop into the hood instead of being above it. Looks much cleaner. stoked on the L.E.D. DRL.

    (3) DCSB vs AC Standard Bed ....... My wife just said, if you dont plan on using the back of your truck to haul things, and we just us the back of it to camp in, why not get a 4Runner? I see her point but, I like the ability of having the Manual Transmission, as well as taking a shell off if need be, etc. This might be one of my biggest dilemma though @cgalloni..... choosing the DC or the AC and the Standard Bed vs Short Bed. I love to use my truck's bed to car camp in and not have to set up a Roof Tent, or Ground Tent. Yet, I am torn because the DC part of being able to haul people around town (just wife and I, no kids), So I have that problem.

I like the Idea of the AC Standard Bed because its a very compact All-In-One Overland/Camping unit. While I appreciate the RTT, and Adventure Trailers, I really would like to keep everything all integrated in just the Tacoma, with the exception of a Roof Rack for carrying my kayak, etc. You can be way more stealth in so many ways, and just pull up anywhere while road tripping and just slip right in the back of the Standard Bed, and go right to bed. Another problem is if you had a RTT on a DCSB and trying to carry a (2 person Kayak) I'd have to take off/on and that gets really annoying especially in those elements of rain/snow/etc.

Currently I have a Allocation Down Payment on a 16' White TRD Sport AC Manual, and expecting to get it near the end of September. I switched it from a 2016 White TRD OR DCSB Manual.

    @cgalloni What do you think?

I think for those of us who don't go serious off roading (not dirt roads) the Sport is more than enough truck. I Had an OR and never used the locker. My issue with the 16 OR is it looks like a base truck with the exposed tupperware.

I prefer the creature comforts and the finished look of the Sport in a 16 and the 15. We don't get snow here and I don't anticipate any driving in snow so even a 4x4 would be a waste for me. But I may get one anyway depending on the price if I go for a 16 which at this time is leaning toward sticking with my 15. It will depend on the spread between my trade or sale and the 16's price.

Hell I have not reached 1500 miles on my sport yet!

In general the EPA ratings are lower than actual. The effect is larger with manuals.

    http://publicaffairsresources.aaa.biz/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/FE2-Fact-Sheet-FINAL.pdf
This could be misleading though. They take their data from the EPA website where users self report their fuel economy. The only people that can be bothered to go to the EPA and log that shit care about their fuel economy. So if you're the type that is concerned about fuel economy enough to drive easy then you should have no problem exceeding EPA numbers.

I have experienced this myself with my old truck, 2010 4x4 4cyl 5speed MT. EPA has it rated at 19 combined. Over 40,000 miles and a couple years I averaged close to 23. I expect the same from the 2016 6MT since it is also rated at 19 combined. Until you put on A/T tires and then all that shit goes out the window.

@tubesock haha, I like your exposition on that. Made for a good little laugh. Very true though. I know people can get more than the EPA estimated MPG in a manual, just in the way they drive. No need to drive stupid fast everywhere. Shift points, etc. There's tons of Hyper miler tricks, lol.

I bought my TRD sport because I didn't want any chrome/black door handles, liked the wheels better, and wanted the scoop look. I don't offroad so no need for the locker.

As for the 16 offroad it really needs color matched flares.

I think the black flares work on several colors. It looks good on the infenro and blue trucks on the crawl control demos. Id rather have those than a hood scoop for sure.

I think we think alike. I am going to be waiting a bit to place my order. I have to wait until my lease ends, but when I do. I will placing an order on a Tacoma metallic grey DC Sport Manual 4X4 . I think is the best choice for me. Let me know once you get your truck and Congrats :)

I think the only place you'll see a difference in MPG's is if you travel at interstate highway speeds everyday. 6th gear is taller in the auto so the rev's would be lower at 70+. I drive 55-60 on normal highways in a 2006 Honda accord 5sp manual 4cyl as a commuter and get 34-35 mpgs consistently in the summer (no bs, I do my mileage every time I fill up). That car is rated at 23cty/31hwy/26mpg combined. If you don't beat on it, I'm expecting to get well above the stated mpg's with the manual transmission driving the same route.

I've had both. Both V6 Doublecabs lifted on 32" all terrains.

    6 speed standard - 14.8mpg

    Automatic - 16.4mpg.
