    Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to the group, and definitely new to Yotas.

    Here's the scenario;

I bought a 2010 "TRD" (stickers on the side) but no rear locking diff to left of steering wheel.
Is that even possible? It's a '10 DC short bed. Did Toyota ever make 2010 off road w/out the locker?

Been looking at buying a whole new rear axle, but they are going for $1,500 here in the denver area (at least what i've been able to find).

Wife has a 2007 4 runner LTD with the rear axle w e-locker.

Any reason i can't swap them? (she doesn't care if i do it, just doesn't want me to screw it up. I know I will have to weld the leaf spring mounts/coil mounts on the rear, and hook up the wiring....

Let me know if this is even a feasible idea? (Pissed I didn't figure the locker issue out ahead of time, despite my research).

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know about 2010, but in 2007 there was a TRD Sport (what I have) and a TRD Off Road. The sport included fake hood scoop, 17-inch rims, and limited slip rear. The Off Road included 16-inch wheels and locking rear diff. There are other differences but these are the biggies. The stickers were "TRD Sport" and "TRD Off Road". Looks like someone removed all but the "TRD" graphics.

Someone just put TRD stickers on your truck man. You got the whole switch a roo. You can buy those TRD decals from the dealers, eBay, many venders on here. If you paid TRD pricing and didn't get the TRD then you overpaid for your truck and I would be pissed. Not to mention you would be lacking other features.
Call a dealership, give em your vin and tell them to look up what model you have.

There is a guy that visits one of my neighbors from time to time, with a really nice looking black 2nd gen, lifted, sweet rig, DCLB with TRD OR stickers on it. We know that truck as the poser truck LOL (No trd OR DCLB in second gen that I know of)

Wow...that sucks. If you bought it from a private party you probably have no recourse.

I wouldn't go out of my way to swap the rear axles for an e-locker especially at the cost of $1500. You could throw an ARB air locker in the rear if you absolutely must have a rear locker.

I stripped off all the badges, stickers, and 4x4 labels from my 2015 OR.

Would the 2WD SR guys call me a poser? :)

trd seats are a diff fabric, they have that defined knee support thing, but non trd's came in graphite and sand beige, where trd's only came in the grey, i would see if there a power outlet in the bed

Unless your wife swapped in an elocker axle to her 07 or if she has the rare 09 trail model, there is no locker there. You must be looking at the center locking button there.

I wouldn't go swapping the axles around between my 2007 and 2010. Even if she's got the e-locker, your truck, if not the TRD, doesn't have the right electrics for it. Yeah, you can wire it up, but you're taking two perfectly good newer trucks and hacking them up, to the detriment of the resale value of both. Keep the 4-runner nice.

Wheel open-open until you find that you need the rear locker, and it would benefit you to have it. Then install an ARB rear air locker. By then you'll probably already have lifted your truck, put on 33" tires, and rock rails if you find you're into it.

Rear locker isn't of benefit in snow-on-pavement; it's only for wheeling.

But the 07' 4runner rear has disc brakes! your wife wont notice them gone, but you will notice them!!! ;)

honestly it's a huge job / PIA. If you truly need a locker, go ARB.

    Thanks for all the replies!

    1) I love 4 wheeling. Could have really used the locker this weekend.
    2) i have a gray interior.
    3) Does the TRD always have an elocker in the rear? (i've seen posts saying something like 09 and newer didn't??)
    4) I will check out the link to the east coast outfit for a locker.
    5) wife's 4 runner is a limited, and has the locker button on the dash. (not sure if that's a center lock or rear, but it also has DAC).
I agree i won't chop her's up, but will just look at a rear locker for mine.
    Tires/lift/locker in the near future.

Let me know if any Off-Roads don't have the elocker? (I know that the sports obviously do not) See pic: no elocker switch to left of steering wheel. Thankfully, i got a great price on the truck (about $3k less than what non-TRD's are going for here)

a true TRD off road has come with a locker from the factory 100% of the time since the package was introduced (this includes first gens)

    You got swindled.

Dont bother with trying to get an OEM elocker axle and swap it in, you dont have the electronics to support it, and you cant just swap a third member in as the axle housings are different. Simply get an ARB air locker and call it good.

DAC has nothing to do with a locker, but it may determine what package you have on the 4 runner... i know some 4 runners came with the center diff option and there is def a locker in the center diff in those... consult your manual on that.

I just got an email notification from this post, and someone said:

2009+ OFF ROADS do NOT come with elockers. They have what's called a ALSD.

(but now the post is gone?) Is this true?

Does the sticker on your truck say "off road"? Or just TRD?

There's a dealer here in Santa Fe (not Toyota, but a new car dealer nonetheless) that slaps TRD Off Road stickers on every base 4x4 that passes through their hands, and it sells quite a few.
