Does anyone with a Manual transmission notice when the A/C is running that you have a bit of axle wrap? Like i notice that my shifts become rougher and i have to feather the clutch when going from 2nd to 3rd gear somethimes. Once A/C is off my shifts become normal. It almost feels like the clutch grabs to quick

The best I can explain is like when I release the clutch when shifting, it feels as if there's more drag on the engine causing me to get a thud and a small jerk forward as I shift through the gears. Its mostly shifting into 2nd and 3rd. Then once I turn the a/c off everything is normal... Its weird I know

When the A/C is on, there is more drag on the engine as you are using it to drive the A/C compressor. If you are saying there is more than usual than I'd check the A/C belt tension and the tensioner pulley and magnetic clutch bearings. Does the symptom change as you engage the clutch at different RPMs?

You're lugging the motor. Run up your RPM a bit more before shifting, before you hurt something.

    6" fabtech lift, 35" tires, 5.29 gears, and you're blaming your A/C for axle wrap ? o_O

Lol! I just replaced the springs with Dakar springs which helped tremendously with the axle wrap problem. Its just with the a/c I feel it happening again and dont understand why its just with the a/c on. I just want to make sure its not an underlying problem somewhere else.

I also was gonna mention if maybe the higher gear ratio has anything to do with it as well. Like amplifying the torque from the added lug of the a/c.

May be time for a budbuilt traction bar

I do notice that, when I shift at a higher rpm it doesn't happen (slightly higher then 2k). Thing is I dont normally shift that high cuss there's no need to. The engine doesn't sound like its lugging at all

Must be a lifted truck thing !!!

My AC gets used all year I have never felt anything .

Then most times my truck has 800 pounds and up in the bed

Then I really have no Conscious memory of shifting gears except for when I go for the high side

If it is not happening at a higher rpm, it ain't axle wrap. I'd check out the AC stuff first.

shifting at a slightly higher rpm, is shifting slightly higher than 2k??? so when you get into the next gear, what are you at? maybe 1200 RPMs?
you need to shift at a higher RPM.
I'm with clearwater bill on this one.

    IMO that is too low.

I know your trying for the best MPG possible, but maybe try going up to 2400-2500 before shifting.
if you go up that little amount, does it take away what you are experiencing?

That 3rz deff needs more rpm, especially with those tires and 5.29's. That motor likes higher rpm fur sure. I have two of em and one with the same lift and gears. Running with the a/c deff takes some umphh away and I'm sure that's what you're feeling with your shifts. Mines a lil luggy hurcky gerky if I'm pussy footing it running a/c. I even notice it a bit with my other truck too, if I lug it too much, its running 265 75 17 on stock gears.

Don't be afraid to rev that bitch! I shift usually at 2.8k-3k, sometimes lower but....I'll even go up to 3.5k or higher if I'm passing or getting up a hill. And that's not at all over revving or hurting the longevity of that motor! Your truck must feel gutless sometimes shifting at such low rpm's?

I know exactly what you mean. With the AC on and between shifts, the RPMs drop a lot faster when you release the clutch because the engine is strained more by the AC running, and by the time you engage the clutch again your RPMs are too low and you get that jerky response. When the AC is off, it's a lot easier to rev match the gear with the RPMs because the engine speed doesn't drop as quickly. Best solution is either shift and engage the clutch quicker or feather it. I usually just feather it.

I really payed attention today to my shift points while using a/c. I never once shifted below 3k and tried to grab the next gear before I went under 2k. Usually 2.2k was the lowest I would go...
