Hello, I just received my order of the VLEDS Amber / White Switchbacks and going to install them next weekend and wanted to know if I needed to put the resistors inline. Yes I got the harness that they supplied to install the resistors without cutting or splicing. Just would rather not use the resistors as I heard they run very hot. Does anyone know that if I do use there resistors inline, if they run all the time or only when the turn signals are operating? And not when using the Day Light Driving Lights? And what other alternative is there other than living with the Hyper Flash?

Also, I searched for replacing the flasher to avoid using the resistors but all I come with is that they do not make me for my truck. I found the post about modding the electronic flasher where you grind down the resistor and I might attempt that, but would like to buy a spare flasher. Does anyone know the part number of the factory flasher that I can buy from Toyota Parts Barn?I looked but cannot locate it, if i knew the part number I could search for it that way.

One more question, I also purchased a light bar from N-Fab which I do not have yet (long story) along with 4 XL Pro from Baja Designs (Bailey from Baja Designs is awesome BTW). I will be using 2 switches from Air On Board that one switch will control 2 lights. I am going to mount them in the center under the climate control switches. The switches from Air On Board have a light that comes on when the headlights / parking lights are on, and when I push the button to turn on 2 of the XL Pro's, another lights comes. But I need to tap into somewhere that will be able to turn on the one light on the Air on Board switch when I turn the headlights or parking lights on. Where is the easiest / simplest place to do that?

My truck is a 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro

Thx in advance for your help

And like wrote in my post I don't see why anyone would run 2 sets of resistors or an expensive flasher when a pair in the back that hide away, installs in 5 minutes or less and don't cost $50 like a flasher relay.

Thanks for the info. You used a 3 ohm resistor on each side in the back? Did u change ur rears to LEDS also? The kit I got from VLEDs came with two 6 ohm resistors

Yup, but keep in mind I didn't bother buying the kit. Didn't see a need to spend $180 when all you need are 4 LEDs and a pair of resistors. I seriously don't get why people are buying amber/amber kits. The only thing I get are the switchbacks for white to amber as my 4157CK LEDs are pure amber and won't change color.

So all I did was simply change out all 4 bulbs and snap a 3ohm resistor in the back tailing cavity. Literally took all of 15 mins. They run as DRLs constantly, blink when activated and dim when switching the headlamps on.

Anyone have a suggestion on where to tap into the harness to activate the light in my switch when the dash lights are on?

No worries. I still have no idea why no one is using this set up as opposed to running resistors up front that heat up when running DRLs, did I mention VLEDs cost 4X as much? Or maybe they disagree with with the concept but I'm amazed no one has boo on my other post...

Just try hooking up with out resistors. If hyper flash then you know you need it. Some say they run it with out resistors with no problems. I got the amber /amber vleds but never tried with out resistors. Put stock bulbs in for now because need to get safety check but will try without resistors when I but them back. Guess reason people go with vleds because its much brighter than regular leds.

Resistors do stay hot because of drl. .Maybe can hook resistors to rear turn so only works when turn signal on only like Dr Jekyll did. Might look into it when I put vleds back on.
As for hooking up light for switch check out flzeeye designs. Its on this forums .The installation instructions show what wires to tap into on climate controls since you mounting switch under there.

Thx hemitruk for the info. I thought I read somewhere that with the VLEDs switchbacks that the resistor is only used during turn signal use. I have the new version as I received it bout 2 weeks ago after being back ordered. I really do not feel comfortable if the resistors run hot all the time.

I will look at flzeeye design about light wire

If you run your DRLs then the forward resistors will be in line and therefore generate heat regardless if you are actuating the blinker.

Conversely if you never use the DRLs your resistors will not be generating heat.

I don't have the switch backs so you may be right about resisters.

When I put my vleds back on will try without resistors . If have have hyperflash will try hooking up to rear tails. thanks

Hooked vleds back up. Tried without resistors does hyperflash.Maybe later will try hooking it up to rear turn signals

Well I just got finished installing my VLEDs Amber / white switchback and I installed without the resistors inline and mine do not hyper flash? Not sure why but definitely not complaining

Have installed my N-Fab light at with 4 Baja Designs XL Pro's and all wiring done from lights to firewall, just need to fish wires through the firewall now

Did you just test it or did you drive it around for awhile?

Okay don't want to be a bummer but I'm positive you'll have to add the resistors. After you drive for over half an hour park your car and test your blinkers with the car still running, I'll bet they start to hyper flash. My 2015 was the same way, I was all excited because it didn't hyper flash but for some reason the truck is only temporarily fooled. I hope yours is not the case of course but I definitely suggest you put the truck through its paces and double check it for sure.

Well, I drove around awhile and no hyper flash as of yet, but my driver side DRL stopped working, the amber turn signal works but it never switches white. Passenger light works good. The drivers side did work when I first installed and tried it. Any ideas?

    Yeah, just run the resistors.
