Here is how I have my intake sitting. For now...at least another week or until I get bored and try another one.

This is a 2015 TRD Pro which comes with 3.73's, BFG K/O AT's, and the TRD air filter. I added a matching TRD beadlock and a matching BFG for the spare. I have a Truxedo Tonneau cover, Hi-Lift, recovery gear, mobile air, large blades for clearing trails etc, body armor, a few firearms, about 2k rnds of ammo, a bag of tools, a portable radio, and now a 1.5" progressive AAL. This is just to give y'all an idea of the weight I normally carry. My pup goes with me too which is another...maybe 45 lbs.

Where I am, sitting at 80 mph on cruise is common. On pvt land etc 60 - 100 mph off road is common. Cruising at 80 is still common in these areas too.

From the factory I seemed to average About 17 mpg. I only had the factory intake for about a week. With the K&N I averaged low 19's to 20 mpg. With the AEM tube, factory box, factory TRD filter, and with the charcoal filter removed, I averaged 17.5 mpg. However a lot of that tank was spent playing and driving hard into the paint. We'll see what I get over the next couple of tanks, with a little more reserved driving.

    Averages are done with math.

Any updates on the AEM setup? Do you like it, hows it sound, and how does it perform? Looks good for sure.

Been meaning to touch base here...

I've driven about 1300 miles in the last two days. Hills, going over passes, some light exploring, a lot of use of the A/C, cruise at 85, and a few hops of higher speeds here and there while loaded up with more than my usual since I will be gone for about a week.

With that I've averaged 18.2 mpg, so far. That is with the AEM ram tube, factory box, factory TRD filter, and deletion of the charcoal filter.

The K&N is a nice intake. However, it did buzz and rattle. The AEM is not as loud. It still talks to you when you put your foot down but it's not as loud and there's no vibration/resonance.

I did get a little more efficiency from the K&N but I also wasn't as loaded and I didn't use the A/C as much as I have with the AEM.

Knowing me I'll probably try the K&N...again, loaded more and using the A/C more. I'd like to try the Airaid and Volant as well, although I haven't got much feedback on either of those systems.

So far so good for the AEM. Nice fit and finish and it's a sealed system - if that matters. It wouldn't hurt the K&N to have a better designed enclosure. It looks like the engineers just built a model from cardboard then put that to steel and called it a day.

We used to use heat tape to isolate heat sources etc on Superbikes. I was thinking about running heat tape on the outside of the K&N box to help it out a little more.

It's also worth noting that the oil dipstick is not obstructed with the AEM.

K&N will see ambient temperature at Approx 45 mph..... No need for heat wrap.... U may actually induce MORE heatsoak with it on.... Just my 2 pennies and experience with K&N

If you place heat tape which is specifically designed to reflect heat it would not make any sense for the inside of the shield to raise in temperature. Your just reflecting engine heat. I've felt the filter after a long run and its hot to the touch.

At any rate, it's just something to try out!

    Just curious

Heat tape. The same tape we would use on our fairings to keep the fiberglass and carbon fiber bodywork from getting burned up by the titanium headers etc.

    Looks like this:

    image.jpg

It sounds like you are thinking of heat wrap which is what you'd wrap around headers or down pipes to isolate heat to the pipe. Is that what you were thinking of?

This is a great review. Thank you. I am very much considering this AEM set up. Your review is very much appreciated.

    Update:

With the extra weight removed and carrying my usual (if your interested my usual can be found by scrolling back) I am averaging 20.3 mpg using the AEM ram tube, factory box, and factory TRD filter. I'm confident the average would be better but hitting WOT and all tends to have an impact on that.

I was bored last week and I ordered a throttle body spacer. I got the Volant Vortice because I found it for $31.00.

The packaging leaves a little to be desired:

Here's the spacer - cleaned up the edges a bit with a blade:

Simple install. Take stuff off, put spacer and gasket in, button it back up:

The engine cover mounting isn't very good. It would require you to cut the cover to get it to fit but it still wouldn't look right since there is a throttle body spacer. I removed the cover.

For whatever reason only two bolts were the correct length for the throttle body. Here is what was supplied and what you'll need. Not a bad idea to be prepared for this. The bolt on the right is factory. The bolt on the left is still too short:

This is the correct size compared to the size provided:

    That's that. Pretty easy.

I'm interested in increasing efficiency so we'll see how this performs. Of course there will be the peanut gallery who claims nothing matters and no intake can increase efficiency, which we know to not be true.

For those wondering, this throttle body spacer does not whistle. I'll be happy to provide a video requested.

    There is no whistle.

Luckily, I am able to afford the steep price of $31.00.

Please show me where I have told anyone to buy anything.

I have provided my data and shared my first hand experiences - which is, oddly, what forums are for.

Please show me where I have claimed anything as absolute fact concerning this.

My opening line in regards to the throttle body spacer, as I recall, was "I was bored..."

    Here is that quote:
