So folks I have found myself in somewhat of a predicament or more of unsure of what to do. I have always wanted to get a winch but have recently fallen into a situation where one would be a great asset on my vehicle. I have started working in somewhat remote areas restoring streams and rivers. Although I do not use my truck for work I still can find myself in unsavory situations traveling roads to the job sites. The preferable option would be to trade for a 4wd but I am going to have to make do with a 2wd with e locker for now. So now that all the back ground information has been laid out my decision falls on getting a plate bumper and a winch and spending 1k+ or getting a hidden front receiver, winch, and cradle for around the same price as the plate bumper. I do wheel but nothing strenuous where a plate bumper is needed but they do look bad ass. I like the winch on a cradle for the usefulness, I can use it in front or rear if needed. I think I may have talked myself into the later. Save money and more useful the hitch would be. Although please share experience.

Just for the sake of comparison of products, Im looking at the shittybuild winch 9500# in the SOS concepts plate bumper or the same winch on a decent winch cradle using the 4xinnovations front hitch.

You asked for my opinion and my opinion is that a 4X4 without a winch is infinitely better than a prerunner with a winch.

I understand I factored additional weight in when I bought my lift. Its suggested for AC cab to run 884s I went with 885s that are for DC with extra weight on front.

My bad, I just moved 8 tons of pea gravel and now I'm engaged in one of my favorite pastimes which is drinking beer and thinking, talking or working on a Toyota 4X4. My new opinion is you should get a winch with a cradle. Then someday when you get a 4X4 you can re-use at least the winch if not the cradle. And keep in the back of your mind that there is never a thread on TacomaWorld asking how to convert a 4X4 to a prerunner.

You sir have a valid point one day I would rather convert to 4x4 than just trade it in. I have turned way too many bolts on that truck to just let it go.

I drove a trackco for 2 miles today it took me an hour to get where I needed to go. That was a long ride but it sure beat sitting in traffic.

But there is so little interest in a 4X4 to prerunner conversion that no one has ever replied to your post...

The only vehiclw wirh a winch i have evee operatwd is an atv with a fixwd mount winch on the front. A cradle or rcvr mounted winch i think would be super handy in real life.

Probably a track hoe. Tank tracks with a diesel powered steam shovel up top

I like those too. I was a field mechanic for a Deere construction equipment dealership but I just joined the dark side; sales. What's your brand?

The company I work for is running shitty ass doosans. I mostly do survey work but operate on occasion when needed, mostly in the skid steer dressing up and grading the stream banks after the trackhoes have finsihed digging the channels and placing the structures.

Bummer. I respect Cat and Komatsu though I am loyal to Deere. I feel like Volvo and Case are slipping, and "shitty-ass" is the most polite description of a Doosan I've ever heard...

We have kamatsu out there that has had zero probelmes but the three doosans are constantly having the rental company out working on them its everyweek one or the other is down for something stupid. The skid steer on the other hand runs pretty damn good its a takeuchi tl12
