285's are nice, but really kill your mpg. If you can get them in a "C" load, that would be the way to go. I had that size on my last full size Chevy. If our trucks had more power, I'd get a set of 285.

I have 235 85 16's and lost an average of 1.5 mpgs on my 4.0 dclb... Bet 285s are worse.

Yes, gas mileage sucks. My truck came with 285's so it's what I'm used to. Seems to have enough power. Again, nothing to compare it to.

The color - almost looks like the old Toyota MR2 Blue from the early-mid 80's, maybe a bit darker.

I was a little surprised at the drop with the 265/75/16's I have. I think 285's are like 20 lbs more per tire than the stock 265/70/16.

I flipped the spare tire and aired up all five.

Did the diff breather mod into the side bed pocket.

I sprayed mine with PB blaster and let is set for a day. Then I used my 3/8 impact driver to "crack" the threads loose. I'd hit the bolt for just a second until I saw them start to turn. They were rusted like a bitch so I feel like I got lucky. I put new ones in after that.

I second the PB Blaster! That's what I used to break my 80 series apart years ago.

Did you plasti-dip the emblem? If so, make sure you spray it with a UV spray. I sprayed mine orange and blue, and after a month or so here in the Georgia sun, the orange faded so badly. I ended up stripping it completely and just painting it blue.

I got all six bed bolts loose. I let PB Blaster soak for about 5 hours and used a cheater bar. I shoved the bed as far as it would go to the passenger side, looks straight now and cap lines up with the cab. Now to finish de badging.

    No mods whatsoever!
Drove it to the dealer to see how much to assemble the front struts so I can install them. $140 per hour. Two hours. All brand new parts w/o disassembling anything. I guess I'll keep searching since I've dragged this project out this long.
