    Good Morning all,

Quick Question I just changed the transfer case oil on a 2014 TRD Off Road and it seem to take a little more than the 1.1 qts listed so I stopped when the oil came out the fill hole and put the plug back in that should be good right?

Can you damage anything if you overfill your Transfer Case or Front Diff?

I don't see how you can overfill it since it will pour out the top hole and run all over the place?

Well, since where I did the fluid exchange isn't a level surface, I felt the need to put more 75W-90 in the Transfer Case than the recommended amount of 1.1 Quarts.

And to answer your question, it's easy, you fill the gap where the pump hose isn't occupying the fill hole with your thumb & pump more 75W-90 in. When you remove the pump hose, slide your thumb over the fill hole to hold in the gear oil so it doesn't leak out. Finally, place the fill plug close to your thumb and do the el swaparoo.

So my question stands, if I put more than the recommended amount in, could it have a negative impact?

Well, I just changed mine this weekend and it took a little more than the 1.1 qts I drained and refilled then drove around the block going in and out of 4WD a couple of times came back opened it up and added about 2-3 oz's more till t ran out the fill hole.

Nah, you should be fine. Unless you were pointed downhill in one of those San Francisco streets I wouldn't worry about it. Other trucks used to have seals fail between the transmission and transfer case. Oil would push it's way through the seals on the ground, as the entire transfer case would be full! Even so, all the mechanical components were fine and the seal would need replaced ($$$$$$$$).

I just figured I put in about 1.2-1.3 in and I think I will be fine as it is a little more than then factory fill....

Yes...absolutely. It depends on how much excess you have in there. You can build up too much pressure & heat in the diff and can blow out the axle seals. Granted, that's probably an extreme case ....

The diff has a 'breather plug' that release pressure - but that doesn't dissipate heat. If the breather plug is clogged (with normal amounts of oil) , can also blow axle seals.

So .1 of a quart would be how exactly how much 3.2 oz = 35.2 oz?

Well, the one I overfilled was the Transfer Case. Maybe when I do the Front Diff, I'll let some of the 75W-90 out of the Transfer Case.

I have an 06 sport with the limited slip rear end. I changed that last weekend. I put the Valvoline+limited slip additive gear oil into the rear diff.

Do I need to put the same in the front diff and trans case?

If I did (I have not done the front yet) put that oil in there would it cause a problem?

Completed the front diff oil change today; months after I did my rear and transfer case. Saved the best for last since I need to remove my heavy skid plate! Front diff oil was dark. Transfer case oil was still golden, and rear diff was milky-possible water contamination.

Thanks you, and I didn't really want to read through 33 pages. I hit the first few looking then just decided to ask.
