God I hope the Ranger returns and takes back the title of best selling small truck. I hope 2.5 gen flops

It does seemed it is aimed more at car people than truck people. Payload is pretty lack luster, while the GM's are around 1600 lbs, the Taco is just under 1200. I dunno, I frequent a couple offroad forums, most of the people are not impressed...crawl control is mostly a gimmick...and the high revving engine...most offroad people do not want. For sure, they will sell them because of the name.

It isn't that I dislike the 3rd gen...just not all that impressed. Have been waiting patiently for the redo...we get it...and I am like "meh"...lets see what the other options are out there. I know a lot are looking at the GMs' new diesel...sure many fan boys on here like to bash GM on here, Toyota might be kicked off the top of the mountain. Guys are already building up the twins, my guess we will see more and more. Lets see, the diesel will have 30mpg, 369 ft/lbs of torque, and decent payload...sounds way better than what Toyota is offering, even if the upfront cost is a little more.

I think it's silly to talk about the door sounding tinny. My boyfriend's new f150 vibrates like crazy whenever you shut the door, or go over a bump. I hate it, it's like an aftershock

Toyotas have always had pretty thin sheet metal....and well, everything built today is too, compared to the old iron.

What I don't like is the blingy interior technology like touch screens, media storage and wi-fi, when everyone already carries that shit on their person at all times in the form of a smart phone or tablet. Then they simultaneously complain that a midsize truck costs almost as much as a full size. I can't fault Toyota, they have to sell what people want or perish. Consumers demand pants with bedazzled back pockets and pickup trucks with bedazzled interiors. I CAN fault Toyota's design deparment, though. They must be smoking fucking bath salts.

    Nailed it.

I don't get putting all that tech in a vehicle either...since it seems like it gets outdated so quick.

My favorite is the 1st gen Tacomas. Seems like with anything...as soon as you find something you really like, they quit making it.

Wow, a bad or lackluster Tacoma review. They don't have to say anything user-centric because they didn't buy and own those trucks with their own money.

But I can't afford to drive a truck paid for with someone else's money. I'll be my money. I know Toyota vehicles, where they had never failed me other than under my own stupidities, and even then they didn't completely failed. I buy what I know, what I trust. Not going to take a chance by giving my money to Nissan or Ford or Dodge or Chevy. If that’s considered a "fanboy" thing to do, then so be it. I give no fucks to the opinions of others unless they don't mind making the payments for my truck.

The 2nd gen Tacoma looks good and even the 5th gen 4Runner up to 2013 looks decent. But their truck design from 2004 back to the 1970's was the best. They looked awesome right out of the box and have aged very well.

It would be a ballzy move, (but maybe successful) if Toyota or someone else offered a more bare bones, basic value orientated compact truck! Here in Canada Nissan has the base Nissan Micra which is a great basic little car for under $10,000 new. I think toyota could continue with the Tacoma, but offer a slightly smaller, more basic but reliable truck, call it the Tacoma or classic, or something? Maybe it only would be available with a 4 cylinder, but a real 4x4 with low range, and few frills. For under $25000. Id buy one tomorrow.

I don 't know how we can say the 3rd gen is less of a work truck then the 2nd. Yes, the five lug wheel is gone and everything is pretty much a prerunner. Is't that good for ground clearance. The frame is the same, only stronger, the transfer case is stronger, the differential is modified for strength. The only thing that is down size, is the engine. It's the same platform as the 4.0 just a short stroke version that pretty much delivers the same torque with more HP. The torque curve, if flatter, would make it tow better. We will see. Doesn't the Ford F-150 have a 2.7 L engine and no one has claimed it not being a work truck with it's abundance of torque. I don't like the freak'n grill.....but it's plastic so you can black it out or remove and replace....the dash board ? I don't see it's an improvement over the old, just different. What I really don't like, is the price.

I had three of those. Great off road, rode like shit, handled OK but rolled over more easily being short. I like a place to keep things out of the rain and the better ride of the aces cab. A rep said that if wasn't for the north east, they would not have sold the standard cab as long as they did. Well, I live in the north east and even around here, the standard cab would go untouched on the lot for a month at a time, while access and crew cabs sold like hot cakes. I here you and know there are advantages. There just isn't enough of you around for Toyota.

Jeep is selling a ton of Wranglers. Sure you can get them loaded with modern options, but you can still get pretty bare bones base model... and the doors are removable, solid axles front and rear, barley any floor insulation. Id say there is a market out there and Chrysler is the only one taking advantage of it right now.

Haven't consider the Tacoma a work truck since they abandoned the HiLux chassis...it is a play truck. All that secrecy and hype over the atkinson cycle engine....to only have marginal improvements over the out going engine...is a big "meh". Typical Toyota....resting on their laurels.

I do want to take a gander at the diesel Collie, but even then, nothing on the market really excites me.

i feel that both the tacoma and the 4-runner look flat out like shit with those big fat retarded front ends. more bulk that does nothing positive for the vehicle at all. as for the tinny doors... the doors on my 2015 jk sound like garbage cans, the doors on my 2014 reg cab f150 didn't sound tinny but they sure had a hollow empty cheap sound, cheaper than my 2009 taco reg cab. along with that they flap and vibrate like a piece of paper when being closed. the gm up close is not very impressive, especially for the price. but this half new tacoma leaves me wondering wtf i will buy in the future when my jk is done in 2-3 more seasons.. i was out for a walk last week and came across two brand new classic style imported land cruisers, with that awesome late 80's style interior and .... anyway. more f u @ toyota.

They are all unique. They are back to basics. You know they don't have touch screens, abs, crawl control. And most important, you know you can jump into it and drive it with reading the owner's manual.

I was over in one of the former Soviet republics this summer for work and the Toyotas there were a hell of a lot easier on the eyes. Not so bulbous and excessively aggressive looking. It's a fad that a lot of manufactures are doing especially the aggressive look. I guess they are trying to give everyone road rage.

    Check out the Toyotas Prado.
