Bought mine back in Feb of last year and it has the removable batteries, WiFi remote, and phone app. I don't need a led screen since I'm going to post process it anyway. Nothing wrong with Sony with the exception there are many more options out there for the GoPro. Yes you will pay for it but it is worth it to me. Hell... I bought 3 of them. Take a look at what all the pros are using.... GoPros. There is a reason for that. They have the market cornered and are quality. Sony has it's place just not as many options or uses. It's what happens when you come to the party late.

I know there will be a lot of people that will come in and say that you can buy a knockoff for half the price and (it may) be okay. I would never "personally" buy one. I'll spend the money to buy a proven product. You get what you pay for.

Saw a mod for this and really like it. I have a shorter arm on it now which looks better and ran power to it up the a pillar. Not a great quality video through the windshield but i only want it as a dash cam so it suits the need for that. For a video you would want to keep I wouldn't recommend this location[IMG]

Walk into any TV studio or movie lot and take a look at the brand of camera they use. Not Go Pro. Sony was a latecomer into the mini cam market but they are hardly a knockoff. If Go Pro fits your needs then fine. I needed a dash cam and the Sony Action cam fit those needs with Sony quality at half the cost of Go Pro. I don't need more accessories nor do I have the need to go white water rafting or skydive with a camera strapped to my head. Just a reliable and inexpensive dash cam.
I'm not saying Go Pro is a bad camera. Just saying that there are other less expensive quality options out there.

Has anyone hacked together a custom mount?

I have the suction cup mount and that's the easiest. I also have the bike/post mount and I've hooked it to the grab handle on the windshield post. Some tweaking g to get it straight, but it works. Downside is that visor can't be used if you need it.

Actually never had either issue. One touch recording, built in LCD for framing, WiFi works well ...

What "fiddling" are you refering to?

if it doesn't survive you can still buy another one, and still you haven't spent as much as a gopro.

but in reality I don't care I bought the sjcam because it has the option for recording as a dash cam. That is only what I use it for.

I "personally" wouldn't stick a suction mount to the body panel of your truck. It has so much suction I think it would pull a dent if you mounted it in the middle of your hood or door. I store mine on the inside of my rear window and it has never come lose in the last six months.

I don't buy cheap. I buy quality. And for what "I" use it for its perfect. If you want a dash cam then buy a dedicated dash cam.

Not always but for the money I spent on my GoPros I can do more with them than the Sony. And yes... You usually get what you pay for.

I say buy what fits your needs. No reason for this to be so controversial. Each one of us probably considered diferent factors when buying one, and at the end each bought what met their needs.

To get this thread back on topic ...

Has anyone found a good way to secure a mount to sliders?

Not sure about the Sony or other brands but GoPro has a roll bar mount that would work fine for that application.
