I have priced the GMC Canyon from the build site. The one I would by is 39-41K msrp
Seems the Tacoma is in the same price range. Won't know for sure till the Tacoma build site is up and running.

Agreed. Just look up the BMW 335D, its 265 hp and 425 torque. I've driven it, and in a chris farley voice hauls major ass on the highway. Much better than the 300 HP 335i.

Unless my modded 6-speed Supra turbo was in 3 or 4th, the 335D dusts it easily.

Whoever thinks a diesel is slow on the highway is thinking peterbilt semi when they see the word diesel. Or just has not driven one.

I love competition. But give the writer a choice between the Colorado/Canyon or the TACOMA to drive thru deserts, jungles, mountains etc. I'm sure the Canyon/Colorado would not be his choice. At the end of the day, which truck will get you there and back ...Tacoma! I bought a 2015 Tacoma and love it. I actually like the interior better than the 2016. The Colorado/Canyon still looks cheap. And the 8.2" ground clearance for Colo/Canyon is even lower than Subaru Outbacks and XV (8.7"). The brakes on the 2015 is very strong...when I had to make sudden stops. I'm not driving my Tacoma like a Subaru STI, so i'm not to worried about sports performance....I PURCHASE MY TACOMA FOR THESE TOP 10 REASONS BELOW AND HAPPY TO PAY THE PREMIUM:

    1. RELIABILITY (GET THERE AND HOME!)
    2. DEPENDABILITY
    3. 4.0 V-6 BEEN AROUND FOREVER AND PROVEN.
    4. WILL GIVE TO MY 11 YR OLD SON WHEN HE DRIVES AND BUY ANOTHER TACOMA OR TUNDRA.
    5. HIGH RESALE...BUT I PLAN TO GIVE TO MY SON.
    6. RUST ISSUE OF FRAME NOT A CONCERN...ONLY HAPPEN IN STATES THAT USE SALT.
    7. DOOR IS SOLID WHEN I CLOSE IT. THE TRUCK IS SOLID...PERIOD!
    8. ANY OTHER TRUCK I WOULD BE VERY WORRIED WHEN TAKING DEEP IN THE MOUNTAINS. WILL IT START THE NEXT MORNING? WILL THE TRANSMISSION GO TO "D OR R"? WILL THERE BE LEAKS? WILL 4X4 WORK? WILL THERE BE ELECTRICAL ISSUES? THESE ARE ALL THE THINGS I WOULD WORRY ABOUT IF I TOOK A GM/DODGE/JEEP/NISSAN TRUCK CAMPING.
    9. CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM/DODGE/JEEP/NISSAN IS HORRIBLE.
    10. TOYOTA MORE USA MADE CONTENT THAN ANY BIG 2 TRUCKS. (DODGE IS ITALIAN NOW).

BUT REMEMBER...AT THE END OF A TRIP .....ONLY A TACOMA WILL BRING YOU BACK HOME. AS THEY SAY IN AFRICA...."IF YOU WANT TO GO SAFARI TAKE A RANGE ROVER, IF YOU WANT TO COME BACK HOME-TAKE A TOYOTA!"

That's Toyota's fault that guy is overpaying?

Some of the comments in this thread are hilarious. Meanwhile Toyota will sell the hell of the 3rd gen.

Yes, you have it entirely figured out

I've worked in Africa for a few years, never once heard that saying.

Strange, I read this. "Insult to injury is the ridiculous prices they are asking." In the context of this discussion "they" means Toyota.

Dude do you work for Toyota? You do realize your 1 & 2 are the same thing. GM's quality and reliability are the same 4 star as Toyota(JD Power). While your camping trip makes for a nice story it's mostly fanboy BS.

The second gen is still outselling the Colorado/Canyon almolst 3 to 1. They already own the market so their not going to revamp what works.

The Tundra is another story. Fuel mileage is terrible & the 07-present body style hasnt aged as well as the previous one IMO.

Tacomas are good pickup trucks for Costco runs and going camping in maintained state parks. But let's not confuse it with the most legendary off road vehicle in the world and the vehicle Toyota made their name with. Landcruiser.

Don't take cover behind your new Tacoma, it's "tinny" and wont stop the bullets. Better get behind the bullet proof land cruiser instead.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Whoever said that was utter crap..
I just got new frame from Metalsa the same manufacturer for 2016 Tacoma, and I can assure you "new and improved" paint job is worse then old one.
If you buy 2016 on your way from dealer stop by the body shop and let them paint that for you with some corrosion protection. Otherwise that frame is going to look like Titanic at the bottom of the Ocean.
Especially since 2009+ trucks are not likely to see frame replacement from Toyota so there will be a lot of Garden ornaments come next few years.

I consider myself to be neutral when it comes to the so called debate, regarding the 16 tacoma.

Let's be honest with ourselves and view things with a realistic perspective. The truck you described may be the perfect truck for you, but it would horribly fail in today's market. I'm speaking in terms of sales in general in the us of a. I feel that we can all agree that typical American consumer loves their bling factor. A company needs to make the smart decision and produce what sells....keep a decent profit margin....smart business decisions...
