I have kind of a noob question.

What is the difference between the 5 lug vs 6 lug? I know the difference in trucks but why is it an option?

Like the Tundra has a 5 lug but some Tacomas have 6 lugs. What is the point?

    Thanks.

5 lugs are the 2wd "economical" with mainly a different suspension and drive train.

The tundra has 5 now because it uses the parts from the land cruiser. When wheels were lug centric (carring weight on the lugs) heavier loads needed more lugs, but with hub centric wheels the lugs just hold the wheel on the hub flange.

And as of this year, no more 5 lug tacomas

They already nailed it above between the 2 tacomas with economy. Smaller lighter parts you'll get better economy but less towing.

I actually don't know much about the tundra 5 lug. I believe the tundra wheel studs are 5/8 compared to the 9/16 the tacoma and old tundra used. Why 5 lugs Idk. That is a question for toyota engineers when they run all of their analysis tools.

I don't believe this is correct. I know that they are no longer making the Regular Cab, but I think they are still going to make an econobox Tacoma 5 lug Extended cab.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Also the Tacoma's are all Hub Centric.

No it was confirmed that thay dropped the 5 lug model for the 2016 tacoma line up.
I guess it's more cost effective and they can produce more trucks without changing the set up.
