    Looking to reinforce your own? I swear I saw a thread somewhere (most likely on TTORA) where a guy did just that but now I can't find it.

    Also can't locate picture of this anywhere on the internet. Seems like a basic thing you need too. Hopefully someone steps up.

    Not quite, but I like that. :)

    The one I'd seen used a reasonably thick sheet of steel or aluminum (didn't bother to pay attention at the time) attached to the tailgate under the plastic cover as reinforcement.

    Thinking about it now it would be a good idea to cut holes and dimple-die the sheet for reduced weight and added strength before installation.

    I have been thinking about reinforcing my own.

    I have decided on going this route. Getting the TSB and having a shop around here get me some metal and place that inside the tailgate as well (a big sheet as proposed) like they do with the gator savers. This truck is gonna be mine for a long time, I have no intentions on living with the flimsy current tailgate.

    Why would cutting holes in the sheet add strength?

    The holes will obviously reduce weight, but when the edge of the holes are dimpled they add structural rigidity to the piece. Plain sheet metal becomes more difficult to bend and twist while at the same time being lighter.

    Dimple died holes also look pretty badass, which never hurts. :p
