Well....I'll say this....these gen-3 threads are entertaining, if nothing else.

So here's my completely worthless opinion (like everyone's).

    1. Latest and greatest doesn't mean shit to me. I didn't buy my '15 because I hated the '16. I bought it because it does what I need it to do. For me it looks fine and drives fine. It's a truck...that's enough for me.

    2. Trailing edge technology is almost always better than leading edge tech. So I'd tend to lean toward the older truck anyway.

    3. Toyota has to sell what most people want...not what people on TW want. We account for but a tiny % of the total # of Taco owners out there. Ask the average truck owner (not here on TW) if his truck as rear disc brakes. You'll get this ---> :notsure:

    4. Speaking of rear discs. I couldn't personally give a rat's ass whether my truck as them. But for Toyota to say it's to protect the brakes during offroading is horseshit. The Tundra and FJ have them. Better not offroad those things then! :goingcrazy:

    5. Finally...most of us here love our trucks...and there's nothing wrong with that. But, at the end of the day, it's an appliance that serves a purpose. If that appliance defines who you are....well, then it's time to rethink some things.

    It's the American dream.

I will admit that I do purchase certain things in excess, but I tell myself it's due to the quality over quantity ideology. I tend to over research, which has led me to purchase the "more expensive" option. I'm sure that a lot of us share this mentality. In the end it's your own hard earned money. People will always have different opinions, perspectives and make different life choices...to me, this is a good thing. We are lucky to have options and the freedom to make our own choices....to a certain extent.

I'm sure the gen-3 will be a fine truck. Toyota will sell a bunch of them. Years from now the gen-4 will be coming out and people will be bitchin' about it. The sun will rise, the world will still turn and guys will still find ways to drink beer and look at boobs. [IMG]

Rabble rabble rabble, I can't wait till these trucks have been on the road for a few years so we can hear more reality and less bitching over nothing.

I tease, but I used to have a 2wd Ford Ranger that could either merge onto the freeway, OR have the A/C on, but couldn't do both at the same time.

So you mean there is going to be at least a few years of bitching to go?

I owned 2 4cyl Tacos before this one and never wanted for more power. So you can imagine how the 4.0L feels to me.

Nothing wrong with 2wd, so long as it performs the tasks you require from it. I live in the midwest, so a 2wd truck is a o go for me. I'd have better luck in a front wheel drive kia vs a 2wd truck in snow.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
They simply can't continue offer 2009+ guys the same thing.
Selling trucks for $30k than spending $12K to replace frame is unsustainable business model.
So either Toyota will have to stop it or take massive losses. No way Toyota will continue selling those trucks and losing money. 2005-2008 Trucks are now a loss to Toyota. (Sold truck fro $29000 spend $12k on frame)
No way they going to continue.
If Toyota did not replace those frames there would be around 100 000 trucks failing inspections and getting salvage title. Thats a big chunk, and KBB would drop resale value like a rock.

Seemed like a lot of trucks here just got the additional undercoating.

Stop the presses! The 4.0L is staying, just minus 2 cylinders and the 5.7L I-Force is now an option! http://trucks2016.com/2016-toyota-tacoma/

"Power for the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will come from two engine choices. One of these is the 4.0-Liter 4-cylinder unit while the other one is 5.7-Liter V8 engine. These engines will be mated to a six speed automatic gearbox and driven to all wheels. The outputting capacity of the 4.0-liter engine is estimated at 236 horses and 266 pound-ft."

Speaking of undercoating....I need to figure something out before old man winter starts peeking around the corner.

Blue T....Toyota is probably a few steps ahead of you, me or any of us Tacoma owners. Toyota relies on their reputation to sell cars....it is how they have become one of the largest auto makers in the world. Your comment seems so definitive, but it is just your assumption. When Toyota made the decisions on the 09+ Tacomas; I'm sure they factored in the past frame issues....none of us are smarter than toyota... though a lot of us on here act like we are.

To be honest, everytime I hear BlueT talk I'm more and more confused about why he owns anything from Toyota but, hey, it takes all kinds right?

Sounds like he will be moving to Diesel and free fuel soon, so the 355nation.com guys can enjoy his personality soon.

I loved my 2010 DCSB TRD Sport but........I thought there were some things about it that could have been better.

I always felt like the gas mileage could have been better.
There was too much road noise in the cabin.
Seems like a 4.0L engine should put out more horsepower. Ford gets 305hp out of a 3.7L engine.
    I wanted a locking tailgate
    The headlights were very disappointing.

All of my "issues" have been addressed in the Gen 3 Tacoma.

Mine is on order and will be built on 9/21
