Supply and demand exist for a reason. All you complaining about the price need to realize that people don't want large truck size. This mid size pickup category is the sweetspot for those who don't tow for a living or regularly. Everything else in the market in this size or even a bit bigger is complete crap. That's why the manufacturers have to do 10k discounts on full size pickups to tempt those of you in the mid size market. If their vehicles were really worth msrp they wouldn't have to do what they do to sway you.

They don't want two different suspension setups on the assembly line, so that's a pipe dream at this point.

The domestics do this, if you wait till october they offer $6-10k in rebates "truck month" off. The sticker was $43k. This affects resale of course though and it was a GM, I only had it for 6 months and switched back to a taco.

Ever heard of market equilibrium and the invisible hand? Something tells me sales will be lost to fullsizes that get comparable mpg. There was a supply sure at 30-35k but 35-40k that is oftley close to fullsize territory. And if they dont mark taco's down slightly which is what they havent done, hence high toyota resale, etc. They are going to have a hard time selling them once the initial fanboys get theirs

I don't think that is going to happen but i do think the dealers will be more flexible with the prices in a few months.

The links provided are helpful. I have seen Invoice and Base MSRP listed on different sites for Toyota Hold Back. Edmunds and TrueCar list 2% of Base MSRP, so I trust those sites.

If those links are TLDR, Hold back is money that Toyota keeps from dealers to help keep the price high for purchasers. Dealer Dave will pay 25k to Toyota after the car sells within 90 days of receiving it (interest if later). At the end of the quarter, Toyota will send Dealer Dave 2% of the Base MSRP of the truck in a lump sum with all the other vehicles they sold. If the Base MSRP was 30k, then Toyota sends Dealer Dave 600 dollars for that truck. If Dealer Dave discounted the truck by 600 dollars, they make up that money at the end of the quarter.

It's a way to give dealers negotiating room without losing any money. It's something we aren't supposed to know about. Toyota also gets the quarter to play with the money.

Funny, I was watching Guns, God, and Automobiles, a TV Show, and a sales worker was taking over as the Sales Manager for their small car dealership. There was a salesman rushing the guy to find him the 'HB' on the vehicle he was selling. The guy was flipping through a binder trying to find it and someone else came up adn pointed to it. He said, "HB, right there, 565 dollars. HB is for Hold Back..." It made me laugh

The trucks themselves aren't all that expensive. It's all the modern bells and whistles people want that add the extra $10-15k to the base price.

OP! Where area you at in California? Northern or Southern? If you are in Northern go talk to Sunnyvale Toyota in the Bay Area. I have been discussing the 2016 with them since February. Went yesterday to put my $500 deposit down after prices went live in their system on Friday. I live 2 hours away from them but they were the only dealer I could find willing to work with me. I have to wait up to 12 weeks for my truck (unless they can adjust an incoming truck) but I am getting a 2016 Trd Sport DCSB 4x4 AT blazing blue pearl with graphite/gunmetal interior, tonneau cover, roof rack, mudguards, all weather mats and door sill, and tow package for $750 over their invoice. Msrp on the truck is $36,648 and I am paying $34,550 including destination charge. So, basically I am getting all of my add ons for free.

I'm in Modesto so Sunnyvale is not that far. Mizark, what other info can you give me... is there a specific person you have been dealing with? How did you negotiate the deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Mavric31 - if @mizrak doesn't give you a name look the dealership (any dealership really) up on the internet and find the e-sales or internet sales person and call them - or the fleet person - their jobs are to move vehicles and keep the dealerships velocity numbers high so they get more vehicles. they are usually easy to deal with.

Point of reference - I have on order a DC LB OR 4x4 AT Blazing Blue Pearl with graphite/gunmetal interior, Premium & Tech, Mats, Sill guards, predator tube steps and Towing for 37,372 with an MSRP of 39,753 - so that is right in line with the discount mizrak is getting - he's 5.72 off of MSRP and I am getting 5.99% off of MSRP. The fact that the discounts are very similar tells me we are both getting near the invoice price as advertised. I suspect mizrak has a slightly better deal since his ratio includes $750 over and mine supposedly does not but the margins will vary a bit too depending on packages chosen etc.

And don't be afraid to make the dealers compete - they all want to sell you a truck. Call them all. That being said, the DC LB OR 4x4 is going to amount to 1% of the builds according to the sheets we saw with monthly numbers on them (for SoCal allocations anyway - I'm in CO and we'll probably get more 4x4) so I am happy that she was able to actually get me a truck and then get it optioned the way I want it.

They have already announced the pricing which is $3700 over the V6, plus the towing package is required, but not included in the $3700. The diesel is also only available in the crew cab. So you are looking at a $40k+ truck easy, and fully loaded probably around $44k.

Tow package is standard on a Sport, the tonneau cover is an ok deal through Toyota, the rest you are better off paying for aftermarket.

It's up to you man. Not my truck or money.

I will probably never understand why people buy dealer add ons. They cost usually 50-100% more than buying it someplace else.

I was quoted $34,200 for a Sport DCLB this weekend. That is $1,000 off MSRP plus an $850 delivery fee. So your quote is basically MSRP with delivery fee and add ons. So a good negotiation start point but not a good end point.

The financing on a $650 cover is negligible. Plus those are actually one of the few add ons that could be cheaper than after market.

Based on that sheet does it also seem that the Sport no longer has the Bilstein Suspension?

Not Toyota factory, but dealers negotiate. When I bought my 15 tacoma in december, they had a 14 TRD off road crew max tundra for $1000 more than my tacoma (wanted it gone since 15s where already in). It was really tempting but it was bright red and 12 mpg no thanks.

Whoever is buying this thing will pay 44k, but it won't be me. I hope a ton of people go out and do buy them in order to put pressure on toyota to discount or move well off msrp to sell more. That way i can get a better deal on the trd OR next year. That's stupid money for a not just a midsize truck, but a gm midsize truck. LOL all day.
