Ok so i figured out that the ebrake aint the same on this axle because its off a 04... and abs. anyways from what im thinking can i buy the cable for a 04 and the hard ware for it. is the mechanism the same on a 04 from the cab all the way to the driver door where that sping loaded arm is?

Just what is different about it??

Can you not just adapt your cable to where the new rear e-brake comes out of the backing plate.

Why change any more then you need to.

The cable is to short the new axle the back plate has the levers on the bottom. Instead of the cable going over the spring it's under now

hoping someone will chime in and give me a answer because my head is spining about it. it might not seem like a bad thing but i always use the e brake because im a manual if i was automatic i wouldnt give a crap.

just a thought can i spin the back plate so the e brake lever is on top? idk just a idea knowing im not using the abs sensor

Take some pictures of the rear.

If you rotated the backing plate then your wheel cylinders would be on the bottom

You have used this rear in another vehicle and just swapped it to this one.??

Having never been under a 2004 I have no idea why they would redesign the rear brakes.

What do you mean by the cylinders as in the brake pistons?

The 04 was a sr5 which was abs my truck isn't so the rear end I have doesn't have the sensors.

The way the cables are mounted on the rear end are different. I'll see when I can get to my truck and take some pictures my buddy has a 04 and I'm gonna look at it side by side and see what I can do. I know it's possible just trying to figure it out

Does this have rear drum brakes ?? Rear disc brakes ??

As the emergency brakes are quite different

The ABS sensors are just going to be redundant

I think if you make or buy the correct brackets to hold the rear cable down lower on the rear .

    Your cable should work .

But without being hands on it is at best a guess

All you need is the cable from the lever under the cab to the axle. It routes the same along the frame, but goes over the axle to the back of the axle housing. There should be a guide mounted to the back of the diff housing too.

i might do this in the future, can you not just use your original brake parts and swap the backing plates/drum assembly + cables and levers onto the 04 axle? i haven't looked closely at the newer axles (mines a 98) so i dont know

the 04 has abs so the axles are different i believe because it has the abs gears at the end of the shafts

The ads axles have the tone ring for the sensors. I believe the axle seal sets further back in the housing. You would need to measure the difference between housings. Not sure if the axle seals are different sizes too. Easier to install the 04 cable. Good luck
