Why wouldn't there be more delaminations in the last couple years if there was a fundemental issue with the tire construction ?

I mean 20 cars , running 10 sets of tires or so every weekend each and 2 failures

 

Too many factors for Pirelli to ever give an accurate tire lifespan , different cars have different downforce levels , different driving styles will put more or less stress , flat spotting or wheel spin through a tire during a stint , track temperature , air pressures , camber settings etc

 

Agree with Ding, I think they were just hoping they would make it to the end. Kind of a crapshoot, but they would lose the chance with either a pit or a blowout. I would have made the same call.

Vettel is full of shit. He was running off the track almost every lap. Just about everyone else was too. At the top of Au Rouge and through the double rights at Stavelot (I think), cars were going completely off the track over and over. Whiting & Co. failed to enforce the rules. There is plenty of blame to go around. This is not on Pirelli IMESHO.

Hamilton's drive was precise and brilliant, again. He engineered a fine victory.

Good analysis. As disappointing as it may have been, they knew the risk, and Vettel wasn't being real nice to those tires. That F1 2015 game wouldn't let you get away with the lines people were running.

The line they were all taking exiting Eau Rouge was definitely all 4 wheels outside of the track limits , every car , every lap

 

They are lucky they removed the curbing that was added earlier.

 

No clue , I was surprised as well . The new sausage kerbs were only removed there because 2 GP2 cars got airborne off of them in practice but I didn't think that meant it would be OK for eveybody to run 4 wheels off the track there

 

Found an article that states:

An FIA statement said track limits would still be monitored, but that "a report will only be made to the stewards if a driver has exceeded the track limits (principally but not limited to the areas behind the kerbs in Turns 4 [Eau Rouge] and 15 [Stavelot]), and is suspected of gaining an advantage."

I think the key there is "AND is suspected of gaining an advantage." I guess if everyone is cutting the corner, nobody is really gaining an advantage, but the rule states that "A driver may not deliberately leave the track without justifiable reason."

My opinion is that they should have issued warnings and penalties and enforced the rule based on that last statement. I can't think of any justifiable reason.

 

There were warnings issued, I recall hearing them during the broadcast. A drive-through or two would have put a stop to it.
