So I'm on my way to work, it's lightly raining - some Suburban flies passed me, and I hear

    th-WHACK

I couldn't initally see anything (again, because of the raindrops)

Later that afternoon - (on the way home) I noticed a dimple kinda rock chip (not cracked, but ...)

    DANG IT

    Haven't even hit 3000 miles yet ----

Ever had a rock chip / cracked windshield ???

whatever you do ... do not have safelite attempt a repair.. they botch it up and looks worse. have insurance claim a new replacement windshield.
There is 2 grades of glass quality in most cases, cheap as fuck and OEM grade for 2x-3x the cost.

Don't do fix it that claims on insurance if you have glass coverage - ripoff that leaves claims on your policy. Ask me how I know. Go get the $12 repair kit from auto parts and do it yourself. Keeps them from spreading, minimizes the appearance if not making it invisible and more will happen if you drive much and you will be prepared for the next one.

I got a chip about 3 weeks ago. Driving along, minding my own business, BANG! Scared the crap out of me. Rock thrown by a passenger car ahead of me on the interstate.

Insurance waives deduct on window chips. Safelite came out, got her patched up. All was good. THE NEXT MORNING on my way to work, BANG! Semi passing the other way threw a rock up. Hit the very upper corner on the driver side. Couldn't even see the chip from inside the vehicle. Safelite comes out, tells me it's so close to the edge they probably can't fix it. Crack.... windshield now has a slowly progressing crack.

Deduct on glass replacement is $500. Safelite tells me it's not worth claiming. Dude says I should just drive it into winter and replace it later out of pocket.
