Well, in my case I'm pretty sure I know when it happened.

I was cruising down the trail a ~3 to ~5 mph when I failed to notice something on the right side of the trail big enough and hard enough to bounce me back.

I didn't even get out to see what it was. I just pulled my teeth out of the steering wheel and continued on my way.

Everything seemed fine on the dirt. It was only after airing up and hitting the road that I noticed something wasn't right.

Oh, and I just remembered the other thing that told me something was wrong.
The little car with the ss coming off it is lit up.
That light comes on if you hold the button down to shut off the nannys but now it's on all the time so there's something else to worry about

Which brings me to another question I have. If you get a used spindle, how do you know IT isn't "slightly bent"?

Apparently, according to you and our drunken friend, you can bend a spindle just enough to make alignment difficult but not enough to really know (other than the alignment) that it's bent.

That is how my passenger side is currently. And while we are on the topic, I suggest the swaybar version to everyone joining the gusset club, more meat on them.

And to answer the first question, buy from a mall crawler, most spindles are curb resistant.

That's a very good question. @thefatkid assumed I had a bent spindle when doing an alignment. I can get 1.2 cater out of the driver side (normal for my lift and stock UCAs) but just over 0 on the passenger side. I would have to imagine that small of a difference is hardly noticeable.

Yeah well EVERYONE is a mall crawler if you're buying their stuff.

So potentially.... you get a spindle from Yota Jim's, buy and weld a gusset to it, remove and install, and have the same exact problem?

A small handful of select mods.
Assuming the gusset was designed on a straight spindle then it won't line up well on a bent one. :D

The light is probably just the yaw rate sensor needing to be reset.

Nah, lethal. I just hot glue .45 shells or whatever I have over a 100 grain tip. Grouse season runs alongside deer and elk during September, so I like to carry a couple if the opportunity arises.

I was in Moab drinking beers laughing at the fact you bent a spindle a needed help but decided food and beer was better. That's how we roll.

Sorry that you had that happen Eric, I know what my lead footed self is buying as a spare now

thought about that.... but I think the gussets could bend slightly pretty easily (in the other direction from the direction they strengthen)
I guess I take that back now that I see how they're bent....

    NO Swaybar

notice the extra gusset going out to the tie rod connection?

You like how I'm all of the sudden an expert on spindle gussets? :D

There's only one kind for first gens as our sway bars attach to the lca and the tie rod mounts to the lbj.

    2nd gen problems.....

and now that I study them a bit more (just from pictures) I wonder if the non swaybar version doesn't brace the vertical part of the spindle better even though you lose the brace to the tie rod connection.

I wonder why they don't make one like the non swaybar with an extra gusset out to the tie rod connection?

Maybe the way to go is with the non swaybar version and add a triangle to the tie rod?
