You can go 100k miles before you even have to change it. It says so in the man-u-al. :anonymous:

Damn dude, that's a bunch of money down the drain (no pun intended). You can change the oil yourself in an Audi?

Yeah everyone knows those german cars need to be basically shipped back to Germany for any maintenance.... That being said my (old) mechanic tried to tell me you had to have so fancy 70 dollar oil for my 99 jetta... Its ran another 80k on mobil 1 (215xxx hard hard miles)

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
Yes. I was mad at myself for that, but I had to laugh it off.

I only paid for an oil change in that car 1 time. I felt like an idiot when I got the bill, as I had always done my own maintenance on my vehicles. After that mistake, never again with that car, or any others I have.

We no longer have the Audi, I really did like it though. It was a quick wagon.

In other news how often do y'all change your oil? Wait for the light to come on?

I put a little dent in the oil filter with channel locks toward the top where your supposed to put an oil filter wrench on a camry. (I now know that hand tight is enough). Do you guys think it will be ok?

Usually every 4k miles on the nose. Sometimes I'll push it to 4.5k depending on the situation.

Yes hand tight is fine or just firm up a bit with a wrench. Do not over tighten!

Yeah you should be okay, but check it after the first drive. Also check it after a weeks time to be on the safe side.

I aim for 3500, but its usually 4 before I get to it, however one time I got real busy at school didn't come home for like 2 months and may have figured out what the change oil light is...

Also in the summer I change my own oil, uncle has a shop with a little pit and everything! However in the winter or if Im busy I go to the local little oil exchange and he does it for me for 30-35 dollars! Which I think is a steal when its -2 and blowing snow.

I work at a Valvoline and still do my own oil changes in my driveway. lmao. Mobil 1 full synthetic for me every oil change. I think I'm gonna nut up this winter and give AMSOIL a shot and see what I can pull mileage wise from it then ship it off to get tested. But if you do the oil change yourself and don't use a full synthetic then you're just pissing away time IMO. Spend the extra $10-15 to get full synthetic, you'll go a little bit longer and you'll thank yourself in the long run.

I've changed it myself ever since I bought the truck. Luckily it doesn't get too cold here in TN during winter months, so I can withstand changing it in the garage.

I enjoy changing it regularly. If you get lazy with the changes, then full synthetic is the way to go. I am overly cautious when it comes to changing my oil, so I'd be throwing money at the wind for synthetic. Let us know the results when you send the Amsoil off. What lab are you going to send it off to?

I do mine every 4,000-4,500 with full synthetic and a quality filter, but I'd rather change it too often than anything. Used to do an OC every 2,200-2,500 in my WRX with full syn. And I can't remember what the lab name is, but it's the one that we use if we ever have to send off oil samples through the Valvoline market in Nashville.

Oh okay. Just curious, but why do you use Mobile 1 over Valvoline? (I use their conventional 5w-30.) :spy:

Tried running both and preferred the way it ran with mobil 1 (trying them both was done in my 350z with a built motor that was super picky). Plus purolator made our filters and the contract just went to FRAM. Both of who I will never use.

One time I was doing the dreaded head gasket on my old 3.0 4Runner and as if the job didn't suck enough, dropped a bolt down the head and heard a "tink" as the bastard hit the bottom of the oil pan.

Another time I was changing a head gasket on a Honda Civic 1.6l and the head gasket the auto parts store sold me didn't quite line up. I stared at it for a while, cussed and yelled, then went down and told them my problem and they swore up and down it was the right one, but swapped it for a new one anyways. I got home and same thing, it didn't quite line up. :annoyed: So my brain finally turned on and I flipped the gasket over.

I did a similar thing years ago as a young apprentice early on a Saturday morning, but with bulk oil and a Cummins N14 - they hold 40Litres. About 1/2 way into "filling" it, I spied the drain plug drowning beside the now overflowing drain barrel - about 10L on the floor makes a lot of mess.:annoyed:

Changing the oil in my S4 is so easy with the drain plug and filter under the drivers side front of the engine. I always use mobil one as well, and always change my own oil.

So after adding 7.5 quarts of the good stuff, I start to clean up and put tools away. I notice I still had the filter to change, so I reach under and twist it off..... all the oil pours out on the garage floor..... with me laying in it. Change of clothes and a scooter ride to walmart at 1 am to get all new oil and 2 bags of cat litter for the floor. Had to throw my white hoodie away. Never bought another white one. This is why I can't have nice things.
