Thanks to Marv! For a good installation procedure see this post. I wanted to keep the factory head unit and replace all speakers, add a subwoofer, amplifier, and signal processor. I did the entire install myself, it took quite a few weekends but was worth it. The most time consuming part was the dynamat and running the wires. The wires through the front door was a pain, and some wiring was not long enough to reach the back (rookie mistake). Overall the difference is huge, love the sound quality so far.

Marv amp rack with amp, processor, crossovers, fuse and power distribution. I made a few mods to this, drilling a hole for a bolt to secure it in place, and a hole to fit the child seat tether. I only had to cut one child seat tether on the left side to fit the sub.


Dynamat all doors. Did the inside behind speaker and the entire outside. Best Buy had a great deal on Dynamat, I was able to do all four doors for $110.


Solder and heat shrink all wiring. Soldering is a must!


Amplifier and DSP controls. Can be hidden in the cubby. Outside looking in no one can tell an audio system has been installed. The far left knob is the amplifier bass control. I really like the dash controls to adjust the bass as some songs need more and some need less.

One of the reasons I went with the 3Sixty3 processor is the wired remote control and presets. Knobs for bass and volume, four presets, and selectable inputs (head unit, bluetooth, AUX, optical). The four presets are the best feature and wish they had more. This gives the ability to change the speaker gains, delay, and crossover settings depending on the type (or quality) of music you are listening to.

The 3sixty3 has a very easy user interface. So far I did basic crossover settings of all speakers: set the gains, delay, and a couple presents, but just recently bought a microphone to fully tune the system.

For the power distribution I kept all power separate from the speaker wire. This is just a personal preference and not wanting any possible noise into the system. Not shown is the battery wiring with a master fuse.

Factory speaker magnet vs Clarus speaker magnet. The factory speakers are a joke. I would say that for all six speakers cost Toyota no more than $10.

 

I'm doing this same build as we speak good to hear it kicks ass. I've been looking for a spot to put my bass control and well bingo you just found it for me!! Great job

 

How much difference did your signal processor make? I keep debating on whether I should add one to my factory Entune system

 

If you only have a bass knob. This is where I put mine. I grinded a little plastic off the back to fit everything nice and flush.

 

Thats a great setup. Mine is very similar. Mr. Marv is great.
If you think it sounds good now, just wait til those Clarus speakers break in. It's going to get even better. It looks like you did a great job. Esspecially sealing those doors. It's such a huge difference between a sealed door and an unsealed door. I had one sealed and one unsealed for a couple days and the difference in sound from the sealed door was just unmistakably way better than the unsealed door. It made the unsealed door sound really terrible in comparison.

I probably would have ended up with the JL HD 900.5, but I already had the HD600 and found a great deal on the HD750.

It was a ton of work huh? I spread it out over a couple weekends, I had a ton of help from friends and family and it was still brutal. I also did MLV through the entire floorboard. That was a day worth of work on its own.

Nice system. What type of RTA are you going to use? By chance are you located in SoCal?

 

It's an improvement to the system, especially because of the factory head unit. You can be more versatile with crossover and delay settings. It is an added cost and setup time, and the RF 3sixty.3 does have its quirks and isn't perfect. I suggest researching it.

 

Nice system. It was quite a bit of work, but a good learning experience. Would I do it again? probably not

Looks like an awesome set up, I'm thinking about doing something similar but maybe without the speakers. Do you think I would be able to do something like this with the JBL head unit in my 2009?
