Why don't you just read about people's experiences with crawl control now on the 4runner forum?

I really don't care. I have my '09 and I have no intentions to replace my truck, so whatever I can learn is just academic for me.

I just came in here for the Terminator music. :D

so in that moment you slip and lose traction, your more likely to break something. No?!!?!?!.. And look where my wife's Sequoia is right now. In the shop.... Why?!?!? Because the stupid computer aided traction control...

    Lmfao..... I am with you..

Rarely does a machine destroy itself with a system intended to prevent destroying itself. I'd wager the computer couldn't compensate

Actually it is a bad sensor and relay... It is a known problem with the VSC system...

it does not have to see a traction loss before it works. In the same way that the stability control works going up hill or down, leaning one way or another , torque is diverted to the wheel with the best traction potential before slippage occurs as the terrain varies. Yes, if one wheel looses traction, the abs sensors would also divert torque to the other wheel but prior to that, the potential is always there to have the torque in the right place. It's advantage is not to give you maximum drive but to give you " sufficient drive" with maximum control. The few times you need more drive then what the system provides, then, in the off road, you use the locker. If you use it too early, you risk loosing more control and steerage then you would other wise.

Hadn't seen this posted yet. Sloppy review but most of it is about crawl control.

Crawl Control is definitely a gimmick until the one day that you needed it and had it and learned how to use it and got out of a bad situation with it.

That's why you select which terrain it is on using the terrain adjustment. Then the truck will know.

Every "truck" item is a gimmick for 99% of buyers. Most people never use their lockers (or know what they're for), don't need 4x4 or use it improperly on dry pavement, bed that gets used for nothing larger/dirtier than a trunk holds, don't understand clutch cancel buttons, never tow anything, never go off road, all kinds of shit.
That doesn't mean new ideas and innovations shouldn't be tried. Air bags were gimmicks, seat belts were gimmicks, abs was a gimmick, the whole goddam automobile idea was a gimmick that could never replace the ease and efficiency of a horse.

That would be tight if it came with Warn manual locking front hubs... I don't see the Hilux come with crawl control mode... Maybe it's an American thing for the lazy.... Woohoo your computer got you to the top of the mountain.... Not impressed....

4lo and 1st gear is my crawl control. It's targeted at people new to the truck and off roading alike. People without much experience that may find themselves in a bad situation and need a little guidance.

Kind of like how ABS and cruise control is targeted towards new drivers?

I use cruise control all the time. It keeps my speed constant for gas mileage and keeps me from speeding on city streets

My crawl control... the only time I will ever use it..... Is to show people that it can and will get you stuck if you rely solely on it... At the end of the day it's just a gimmick and a crutch for those that can't do it for themselves... Once again.. woohoo your computer got you out of a place you shouldn't have been in the first place...

    Why even buy 4x4? It's a gimmick.

As a matter of fact I use my 4wd all the time.. And yes you should walk up something that your not sure of... That is like a standard rule thumb when is comes to mud and water....
