What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

How long did you have your lift? I heard you had to replace the UCA after you get the lift kit. And I did grease my drive shaft as well and my u joints just a week ago. I don't know how far I should extend the drive shaft though

 

Lol..all I'm sayin is I like the orange blinkers more than the clears. Just my opinion.

 

Since there are only 5 studs in this kit, you would need to order 2 kits

 

Save yourselves the hassle by not buying aftermarket steering racks.

 

Rack doctor or safari?

 

Finally finished my factory cruise control installation. Works great.
The big hangup, for me, was the hard-to-find computer. I had it shipped from Whiteys Wrecking in Washington state.

 

How much money did that take just to do that?

 

Don't remember, whatever Advanced Auto has. The first one had play in it about the first six months so replaced it. Took in my truck to get aligned today and they refused because of a bad inner tie rod, it's just been a little over a year. So now we get to put a third one on. Only because it's warrantied. If it does it again I'll just fork put extra for a Toyota one. Just sucks when you dump a few grand into your front end and it craps out a year later.

 

Mine's over a year now and doing good. Much better than I can say for that AAE/Safari piece of shit!


Anyways, picked up a junkyard spindle today to replace my bent one, as well as some TC spindle gussets to try and prevent it from happening again.

 

I have a slight leak out of my input shaft on my rack doctor but it's really minor. Not enough to try to go through the warranty process to replace it.

 

X3 for rackdoctor. Solid warranty and costs a whole lot less than oem. Just order one from an 01 to 04 because of the guide or whatever they changed

Just for the CC computer? It was $50, plus shipping ($10). Dealer wants around $700 for that part .

 

Rack Doctor sounds familiar, but I don't think I'd be lucky enough to have two in a row crap out, so maybe mines a Safari. Of course the parts store somehow deleted any record of it so I can't check to see which it is. Good thing they know us there otherwise we'd have no proof of purchase to be able to warranty it.

 

And I was frustrated with Toyota because I had an appointment at 9 this morning. They didn't put it on the lift until 30 minutes later even though I was the first of the day. I kept walking out and checking on it, just sitting up on the lift with nobody working on it. Another 30 minutes go by so I ask someone wtf? And that's when they mention the tie rod. "So you just let it sit up on the lift for an hour while I'm waiting around and nobody felt the need to let me know?"

Well there you go lol. I'll give another one a shot and if it goes I'll replace it with a better one. That way I can save up a little more money.

 

And I finally replaced my CV that has been ripped for years...it literately disintegrated when we pulled it out little needle bearings everywhere lol

 

Toyota tried to tell me the same thing last time I went for a alignment and they torched one of my boots trying to remove the alignment tabs. The part they said was leaking had been the same ever since I bought the truck and I just put new ES bushings in it so I told them nice try. Ended up with a new inner tie rod boot even though I told them I wanted the entire thing replaced since I drove on a ripped boot for a week before realizing it
