Crawl Control a "gimmick"?

Why don't they just offer a front locking differential, too?!?!?

 

The front wheels have the heavy engine sitting over them. Unknowing users will destroy the front differential or axle shafts using a front locker

 

Why? It's not like you're buying one.

That or you have a front locker and then not use it in almost 3 years, much like your GoPro.

5 speed manual, 2-door, short bed, locking front and rear diffs... That would be my choice

 

Whatever it is, rear diff lock, atrac, or crawl control, know how to use your truck and the features and when to use it. Unlike some, they believe their tacoma can climb a mountain or go through anything. Been there, done that.

Not angry at all, just throwing some snark towards butthurt non-3rd gen owners saying a bunch of opinionated bullshit justifying their attack on the 3rd gen just to feel better about their outdated pos.

Kinda like iPhone 4 owners bashing the iPhone 5, then fast forward a couple of months those same bashers upgraded to the iPhone 5. Same idea.

If any of you think the 3rd gen is a failure/pos/overpriced/girly/etc, that's fine. Say your condolences like maybe once or twice max, and then just jock the fuck on. Keep driving your 2nd or 1st gen, still good trucks and you save money. No one, not even Toyota or Mike Sweers, is pointing a gun forcing any of you haters/bashers to buy the 3rd gen. Move the fuck on instead of all the whining and bitching here like a bunch of babies.

Unless being like a bunch of whiney little babies is a tradition and a rite of passage in TW. If that’s the case, there's no point for me to waste precious time in this forum anymore, where I'm actively trying to read posts from soon-to-be 3rd gen owners to learn what I need to learn before I plan to buy the 2017 Tacoma.

My neighbor has a plow truck we use for our road and he has a locking fron differential. Every time I used it when it was my turn to plow the road, he was some nervous nelly about making sure I unlocked it before I took corners too tight or got anywhere near the end of the road or.....he said he has had to replace it twice..it works great but it sure is temperamental. It must be the strain on all the components associated with being on'the turning axle. It makes me nervous. The rear on mine is fine. If I need it on both, I'm not going there.

Well I ain't one of those 2nd gen butt hurt guys... I don't have a truck anymore ... I first was in this thread to give my first hand experience with crawl control... That's all... And people getting all butt hurt when I say I don't like it. My opinion... But I also know my limits and know when to turn around...

The only company to me that does it right... Is MB and the G500... Has the most advanced 4wd system probably in the world but when the shit hits the fan.. You can locked it 3x(center,rear and front) and it cancels out all the technology for 100% traction at all times..

 

Good to see get unstuck in sand. Can't find it get unstuck in mud and snow buried to the frame.

If your talking about the video where it gets stuck going up hill and reverses out... I'm pretty sure it could have done that in 4hi...

Looks to me like 9 out of 10 people here misunderstood the point of Crawl Control, hence proclaiming that it’s a gimmick. The best part? If you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

If it's something that is on by default which couldn't be switched off, then the complaint would be justified.

 

I would have thought it would have just buried it more, its hard to think of a vehicle up to the frame in sand just get out with 4hi, But im not that acustom to sand so idk.

 

I think Toyota/Sweers dropped the ball on the Crawl Control "stuck in sand" demo, hence the immense skepticism on this board. What they should have done is to bury a 2nd gen into the sand, and ask a journalist, any journalist, to try to reverse back out of the sand, and see if they could do it. Then demo the Crawl Control mode using the 3rd gen.
