I had to laugh when I read this. Several years ago ('05 so I guess 10 ... ) I had the same thing happen at a Subaru dealer. Floor guy would not budge on price or trade at all. Went home, used something like true car - I think it was cars.com but don't remember. By lunch I had the loaded XT Outback at invoice less holdback, no dealer BS fees, and they threw in a cargo net and 4 oil changes (not standard at the time). Several dealers played in the game but eh most aggressive was the one that would not budge less than 12 hours before from 1k off of MSRP. They also matched my ask on the trade no problem. You should have seen the floor guys jaw when I was signing papers. Priceless. A huge dust up ensued between sales people and sales managers right in front of us. F%$# hilarious. I finally stood up and told the floor manager that he and his boy had their chance and had been idiots the night before so their loss. The B*&^%$#@ and moaning about how they had been screwed internally was epic. The internet sales guy was just laughing. He flat out told me it was his job to get cars off of the lot as long as they don't lose money so they can keep their status as #1 Subaru volume dealer. Said he loved his job b/c he made great $ part time (was a teacher FT) and no one ever walked away from his office feeling like they were not given a good deal because they all got great quick easy deals. Every deal I have done since has been with the internet department, before that it was always fleet guys but they still are less aggressive than the internet guys.

On that one I walked in with financing arranged and they couldn't beat the rate for some reason. I refused to budge and it was like $1.29/month different. Finance guy whines about its $1.29. I do the math and tell him it's $77 over the 5 year term and I have dinner plans with my wife as soon as we leave. Guy says f&^% it and offer to take the $200 floor mats off of the price if I use his financing. Fine, done. That is the other place they make a fortune along with "extended warranties". Ex wife was a statistician, hilarious to watch some poor schmo try and sell her that crap! Now I just tell them I have never bought or needed one in the last 5 new cars I have purchased and am using the money I saved to buy this one :)

One last thing I like to do now, is give the sales person a heads up that I have financing arranged, will not buy the warranty, and that they have 60 minutes from the time I say "deal" to the time I walk out the door with or without the car. That won't work this time since she knows this is my truck coming in and I know they can sell it no matter what but I will still put time pressure on them. I'm not there to be best friends and give them time to try and sell me more shit.

So, moral of the story - go buy your car and don't be afraid to negotiate and play hard ball. You don't need to be a dick about it but you can get a good deal right now on these even on pre-order if you spend a few hours on the phone and email. I spent one evening about 3 hours and one Saturday AM on it. A few more follow ups during the allocation nonsense trying to see which dealer would get the car but then done. Probably 4 or 6 total hours on my part so $2381 saved over 8 hours (I'll be generous) = $297/hour more or less. To vikings point, this will definitely be easier several months from now once these guys actually have inventory on the lots. Right now, my situation is I am sans truck due to an accident and this is the one I want so I am happy enough at invoice given how damn hard it is to get a DCLB OR 4x4 loaded allocated here in CO. 4 months or 6 I would not be happy at anything other than invoice less holdback if there is inventory on the lots. If you don't need to do this now definitely wait a couple of months until you see a shiny new row of them, then go to town and get everything you can from them.

Tacoma's are not known as trucks with lots of options. Go look at any of the big 3 and you will soon realize that they have a pretty good set of standard stuff and all are giving thousands of dollars in discounts that make their products fairly close to the 2016 Tacoma. I currently have 2 toyotas and have had 2 tacomas. They are good vehicles, but far from perfect and I think they do deserve to have a good reputation for quality, but they have their issues like every other manufacturer does.

There will be rebates and dealers will come down after these sit on lots for months like the 15s are right now.

The overall problem with buying a full size is that I don't want an American truck and I don't want a Tundra or Titan

I was not trying to talk anyone into buying an american truck...just pointing out that the pricing and in some cases size is now pretty comparable. Its great that people can buy whatever they want. Choice is a good thing.

There are a lot of 15s in inventory around me. Every dealer is sitting on at least a dozen, some up to 30 2015s of various flavors. If the economy takes a crap in the next month ( which is almost a certainty at this point) they are not going to have much choice. I don't know many people looking to or willing to drop almost $40K on a midsized truck. Add a market crash and some mass layoffs or worse to that and it will be a buyer's market. I think they may have overplayed their hand on the pricing.

    Yep
More of a reason to forget the taco and move for a real truck.

Are the Russians coming too? When will they strike in the next month? Do you know the date?

We had a floor guy finish the deal as the internet guy is being "trained" to move up to the floor. When floor guy saw sale price, he took the sheet, did a double take, and went straight to sales managers office. My guess is the internet guy got some additional "training" this evening.

You must be new to Toyota. A) most areas there are not massive amounts of 15s sitting on lots B) Toyota dosent massive discount or rebate Tacoma, they dont need to and this is part of how they keep high resale.

    But please try again.

There are something like 18 dealers in the Baltimore/DC region all within a 35 minute drive of one another. That isn't counting the VA side. Now obviously their online search tool is not an accurate realtime inventory system but if there are still 15s being delivered because they were building them up until a few weeks ago. I haven't counted them all but the lowest count I found was 8 and one has over 30. That is a lot of Tacos. The ford dealerships are even worse. I think the Chevy is the only hard to find. I see no more than 3 or 4 Colorados per dealer. Won't go near one of those.
Going to be a hard decision. Spend 39-40K on a Taco when I can get a Tundra Limited or Offroad for the same price. http://jonesjunction-toyota.com/New-2015-Toyota-Tundra-Limited-57L-V8-Harford-MD/vd/29105072

I went through same last year, left over 2014 TRD off road crewmax tundra was $1000 more with a better APR than my 2015 Tacoma, after test driving the tundra and gas mpg, went with the Tacoma and what I know to love, plus the tundra was red, not a red truck fan.

Koons is a massive dealer. I do like the way over priced TRD Pro. Toyota had a 18% gain in Tacoma sales last month, some 17k sold, I doubt they are having any issues selling them.

Thank you for proving my point. I also tell my kids to bring a toy, it's just that it's called a tablet, because it's 2015 and not 1985. Do you still roll down your windows by hand or is it ok to have one of those new electric doohickeys do it for you? Consult your "jesus fish" and get back to me. :)

Toyota is offering $1,000 off 2015's right now, which should be a good starting point for negotiations, especially with the new 2016's coming and the dealers wanting to get rid of the 2015's. :)

$1k is hardly massive and pretty norm at end of year, I have seen some $4k off on limiteds which have more wiggle room. If you can get $3k off your good!
