Assuming they have two vehicles I'd say it's important to be able to put a car seat permanently in BOTH vehicles. I know a man personally who shares a car seat between his two family vehicles. It's a nightmare. He recently forgot the take the seat out of his car and was across town... his wife HAD to take the child to the doctor and he couldn't rush home... guess who wasn't in a proper car seat?

What if the kid's at daycare, grandma's friend's house, blah blah... mom dropped the kid off but only dad can go pick up suddenly. You just need two car seats plain and simple.

My wife and I share a car seat. No problems. If you get a model with a removable base and keep two bases it's not an issue. Wherever the kid goes so does the seat, all that's needed for both vehicles is the base.

Our parents have bases as well.

Honda Fit is a tight squeeze with a newborn. We brought our baby home from the hospital in our Fit, first and last time we did that. Whoever sits in front of the car seat will have their knees in the dash.

Double cab is a great option for having a car seat in the back. Plenty of room back there with our 4 year old and 3 month old.

I know how the bases work. Been there and done that! Just saying, unless the car seat comes OUT of the car when the child does it's always possible for the need for the car seat to arise when it's not present. When they are infants the multiple bases work fine because you virtually always take the car seat out with the child in it.

When they are bigger this doesn't work anymore and you need multiple car seats. ;) Anyhow, I don't want to :deadhorse:.

I have a new born and an Access cab. Driving the baby and myself is no problem, she fits in the back behind the front seat, and using the front seat lever that turns it into a table makes loading and unloading a breeze. Now the front seat is pretty far forward, and if we are going anywhere that take more than 10 minutes we take my wifes RAV4 as she does not like to sit that close to the air bags. So the RAV is the family vehicle for long trips, and the Tacoma is for daddy daughter time :).

Get the DC! Make sure to discuss with wifey first. Also get a seat that has a detachable base. Buy a base for each car so that you can just leave the base in each. Makes things so much easier. Babies fall asleep in cars and you don't wanna wake them when you gotta take them out.
