885x coils on 5100s. SPC upper a-arms 255/85/16 bighorns, 12k lb reciever mount rear winch,CBI offroad moab bumper,8k lb warn front winch, swaybar delete, spidertrax, icon minipacks, custom dog box, husky liners
I installed a ome lift with aal, trim pack and 1/2 inch plate with lr upper control arms, aligned at 1.5 plus caster. Drives ok on pavement unless you hit a speed bump or large hump in the road at speed. The compression is not real bad but the down travel feels like it instantly bottoms out with a thud even on around a 10 mph speed bump. I bought this truck for hunting but no way would you be able to keep your kidneys from bleeding after a day of hunting on rough roads. The rear articulates very well but the front would rather lift the tire because it is very stiff. I have two Ram 2500 trucks that ride smoother. I pulled the top spacer out and seemed to help some with down travel. I did a ton of research about how well the ome lift is so I cant see where people would prefer such a rough bounce all over the road ride. Tires are maxis bighorn 255/85/16, 2015 tacoma double cab trd currently has 7200 miles on the truck and around 2500 miles on the lift. On the front strut assembly the strut coil mount is facing up as to lift the coil higher and the factory strut coil mount is down. I almost believe i assembled the struts incorrectly or is that normal. Thanks in advance

Can't compare ride to a Dodge 3/4 ton. The Tacoma is a lightweight truck. Not easily made to ride the same as a much heavier 3/4 ton.

885 coils are only 50 lbs heavier (spring rate) than factory coils. My 884s are the same spring rate and ride great.

Your 255s, what load rating are they? They aren't helping your ride quality, especially if E rated.

I compared to a ram 2500 because they ride like a a tank

    Tires aren't helping.

My 884X coils and Nitrocharger Sport shocks also clunk over speed bumps at 5MPH, so I know that sucks. I don't know if the shocks are rebounding super fast or if my sway bar is making contact, or maybe my UCAs hit the coil (I don't think this is the case) but the ride is compliant.

Rocky, rutted trails are going to be bouncy no matter what and the OME stuff is stiff. Your tires are contributing to that, but maybe you'd be better served with a different setup. Or adding some weight.

I know what the OP is talking about. I used to bomb down dirt roads with stock suspension and it was great. Stock suspension wore out, so I put in the OME 885 coils with Nitrocharger shocks in May and now the stupid shock tops out over speed bumps at my work and makes a loud ass thud sound. It's dumb. I would never have spent the money had I known about this. Here is my long explanation of what is happening.

How fast are you going off road? If you add some weight (skids, sliders maybe a bumper) it will help with the ride. Also I would let it settle more, get 5k miles on the lift or so and report back. My 886s ride like butter but I have probably 400+ pounds of armor

How does the front articulate on yours with the 884, I understand tires and ride but tires wont keep it from articulating. I cant see where anything was hitting. I was going to remove the sway bar to see if this helps. Feels like I added lift with stock shock so they have no sag

As I understand it the "thud" sound is the shock hitting an internal metal stop during full extension on the backside of a speed bump.

I can't imagine those things bottoming out on speed bumps. The OME clunk is something totally different.

When I need to catch up to my dogs off of another road I cant drive 1.5 mph when the dogs roll out on a lion or a bear. I am considering different suspension or going to a F150.

It's not a bottom out like under full compression, rather the shock is fully extended, so I like the term "top out" instead. The OME shock just doesn't allow for much down travel, so a metal stop his hit and produces a loud ass bang sound.

I get a clunk at slow speed when just flexing the front end sometimes even with a turn when I have a lot of weight in the back. When I remove the sway bar the sound goes away. A lot of people describe that clunk. Thought OP was talking about the same thing.

Just looked up the specs because I was curious. So, you could have a problem over extending the shocks but, probably not bottoming them out.

Nitrocharger sport shocks (90000 or 90021)

    Extended Length: 21.378"
    Collapsed Length: 16.260"

    Bilsten 5100: 24-239370

    Extended Length: 22.56"
    Collapsed Length: 17.03"

Well, this agrees with the specs I found.

Wouldn't it be better to run a longer shock because bottoming out from compression is alot less likely then fully extending them unless your jumping the truck or really railing a bumpy road.

Is the lower coil support correct or upside down?

Don't be bombing down roads? It's not long travel, you can't do stuff like this:
