Carfax is useless, my old 2000 had severe damage and was in the body shop for 46 day including 40 hours on the frame machine and the Carfax showed nothing.

Doesn't look bad. If carfax takes a hit which I doubt it would for something that minor I'd be oissed.

I'd drive right to my toyota dealer and send the other place the bill nothing less.

I had a similar experience, I skid and hit a guardrail. Bent frame with hours on frame machine. I traded it off about a year later and no carfax ding.

TBH, I would just take the money & run, as long as there's no frame damage.

Yes, you pay your insurance to handle things like this, so let them do their job.

Any suggestions? I was looking at AllPro front and rear aluminum bumpers prior to this and saw that there was an RCI group buy for the carriage armor.

I like those but still haven't made up my mind either.

TW gods will have to help there.

    Glad you are okay.
They never hit the older beaters it seems.
I had a new car and it got hit in a parking spot.

That being said I would take it to Toyota and have them fix it.
I would also demand new parts and nothing reconditioned.

Take good pics of the damage for future owners. Their imaginations will run wild on reading about an accident event. Keep the photos in your truck folder and show them to the new buyers so they see the exact damage.

Just learned about something called "Diminished Value" claim. Have you guys heard of this? Any ideas on how to get the other party's insurance to pay? I'll take it a body shop I trust later in the week for an estimate.

+1, if Chevy wants to settle then get an estimate from Toyota shop with OEM parts. If it just bumper and hitch take estimate to Chevy and double it. Fix yourself and pocket some mod money. I have had a couple of rear bumpers hit and have profitted on all by doing work myself. Keeps it off Carfax.

Don't expect a windfall of cash for a " Diminished value" pay out, it don't work that way.

Wife was in a rental, other driver pulled forward out of HIS driveway into the right front of the Impala, $10k damage to the Impala, Diminished value claim was under $900. YMMV

We successfully got about $1600 on a 2006 RAV 4 from the OTHER insured account. We refused to settle medical until they agreed on the diminished value. The at fault person was a DUI. Took nearly a year but we decided to hold them responsible for "making us Whole" We did not want MORE than we deserved.

You cannot collect diminished value from your own insurer comp or collision
