Ford doesn't rush things to market that aren't ready. They had the Ecoboost and Aluminum Panels ready 3-4 years before they put them on the production F150. I'm sure they will take their time with the Ranger and put out something that makes the Colorado look like a mickey mouse truck.

Yeah...Ford has been pretty aggressive with design queues, quality and innovation.

Mickey is a better welder. Take a look at the Colorado's bed welds sometime. I'd expect that from a 1960s Russian truck, not a modern, robot-welded one.

What are saying is, they'll have to dumb down the global version for the American market...and son, that takes some time... ;) :D

Lol. Yes to some extent. IIRC the Ford regular cab Ranger has a payload about equal to the 2014 F150. They won't roll the truck out with those sort of stats.

You can bet on Ecoboost technology and a Diesel option though. The 3.2 L is already here so they'd be silly no to throw it in the Ranger. Aluminum panels and some sharing with the F150 on powertrain parts might be wishful thinking, but if it happens then that will be my next truck.

Plus I want to throw it in the craw of all the hardcore Toyota fanboys in my offroad club. They circle jerk with the Jeep boys pretty hard. I'd love to see their face if Ford throws something out there that completely out classes what Toyota has. Which is basically what Ford loves to do. Heck, Ford even stole the compact car segment from Toyota with the Focus for a few years internationally (didn't work out as well here). Toyota will answer this, make no mistakes.

If the ranger comes in it will only be a good thing. It will push everyone else including Toyota to do different things with the Tacoma to keep it ahead. Cause right now they are still #1 and have no need to make anything ground breaking

    Revival forecast for segment

The midsize pickup market has shrunk considerably over the past three decades, from a peak of about 1.4 million sold in the U.S. in 1986 to a low of about 227,000 in 2013, according to Edmunds.com. Industry analysts expect the segment will grow to around 300,000 in the coming years.

Apparently analysts at Ford, Honda, GM, Toyota and Nissan are expecting more growth than that. Sharing 300,000 units five ways doesn't seem like it will pay off the development costs.

It will do okay if you already have most of the development done overseas. Bringing over a truck like the Ranger or Navaro shouldn't be too difficult if you have the plant space. The question is will companies do it.

I posted some comments a couple mo. back in one of the 3rd gen threads about Ford bringing the Ranger back, and a Raptor version too...
Just too lazy to look them up and quote them...

Question: Are payload ratings different on long bed models? Are towing ratings different too? I imagine the DCLB weighs more than a DCSB and might affect specs slightly.
