Not the worst review I've seen. Automotive journalists rarely know squat IMO, most couldn't tell a macpherson strut from a solid axle.

I'd expect the GM to be quicker as mentioned, larger engine with more HP and Tq.

I had a 1st gen Colorado. It did better than the 2nd gen Tacoma in similar areas. The rear seat had more room, it was better designed for work with cargo lights (WTF doesn't the Tacoma have such a basic feature every other truck does), more bed volume, better tailgate design, it got better gas milage, it had more HP (but a really crappy 4spd), it was quieter, had a better warranty, Ect.

While all that looks good on paper, in the end it was better designed for street use and horrible off road. Did you see the front end height and spare tire on the new Colorado? I'm sure not much has changed. There is also no comparison in aftermarket support (which is huge for most on this forum). Fleet buyers will buy the Colorado, weekend warriors will buy the Tacoma.

I regretted my decision to get the Colorado and sold it and bought my Tacoma. Then all was right in the universe again.

I have listened to all of the incessant griping so many of YOU guys do regarding the front end...the drum brakes...etc. I usually just pass it off as "Oh OK strange dude on the internet..." but I have to agree with the comment the reviewer made about the power ports in the rear. I mean for 40k you cant toss a cigarette lighter back there?

That review was given from what seemed like a guy that lives in a concrete jungle. Taken from that view it wasn't bad at all. Seems most reviewers are the same which is not a bad thing. They don't research a particle vehicle like an enthusiast would.

For $40K you couldn't put rear AC vents back there? For $40K you couldn't put a center armrest back there? For $40K you couldn't put 8 cupholders back there? At the end of the day, you really can't please everybody. This Tacoma has a lot more amenities the previous gen had... And with conservative Toyota, you gotta at least be happy in the direction they are headed.

That is probably the worst review I've seen yet. He only stated the things he didn't like, or the Colorado/Canyon had. Anything that the Tacoma shined at, he just quickly glossed over. Seems like a pretty biased review.

Also, I think I'd rather listen to a vinyl record of Hilary Clinton rapping about gun control covered in peanut butter than listen to that guy's voice, with his shitty, judgy inflections.

    Yeah, he's a biased idiot.
Excuse me while I kick the back bumper to prove a stupid point...

His point about the drum brakes was valid though. Not that the big deal is that it has drum brakes but that Toyota says they are better for OR use when the land cruiser and 4runner has discs. If just a lie from Toyota.

Has Tacoma ever had class-leading anything? Resale is and ground clearance maybe? Few Tacoma buyers give a flying f*&k about "bragging rights". My 2002 Tacoma is loud and the motor is gutless and you know what? I've owned 10 vehicles in my life and it is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

The review seems spot on. It's nothing new, the only thing different is the delivery of the words.

If a few well placed words can improve the Tacoma, so be it. Why get upset about a review that tells the truth?

The Tacoma is an economy truck, it always has been. We're paying a price premium for the Toyota name, assumed reliability & credibility. It's unfortunate that the economy truck has a premium price, but lots of us would still pay for it.

Drum brakes & C-Channel frames are there to minimize the cost of *production*. This increases the profit margin. It's not about "passing the savings on to the user," it's about making the money for Mr. T.

And yet it's the highest selling mid-size truck in the United States.
And yet it has the highest resale of ANY truck.

I guess we're all just a bunch of lemmings?
