tsb leaf springs - another old subject - with questions

went to the dealer yesterday and complained about squeaky leaf springs. the service person stated they would order me a new leaf spring under warranty...TSB "squeaky leaf spring." i was reading on this site about the 3 vs. 4 leaf spring TSB. i went to the dealship and discussed the situation w/the service person. he became pissed and said "f"ing bloggers, but now i am having the 4 leaf spring TSB done on my truck.

hope that there are not holes drilled in the side of my truck.

i told him "would he not like to have the same thing done if this was his personal vehicle?" and "should it not have been done right the first time?"

he was not too happy, but he was pretty cool about the situation

anyway, here is the question:

what are these "silence" pads between the springs.

i just want to make sure i only have to go through this process once and make sure it is done right.

They are inbetween every leaf at the end and prevent metal on metal rubbing. If you offroad much they'll get dirt in between them and probaly squeek if you don't grease them. There is another tsb for different silencer pads that supposedly fixes the problem. I'll see if I can find it.

im glad your able to get it, and i think its funny that the service guy through a bit of a fit. They know it's supposed to be done if someone comes in. Big babys. i wish tho that i could get the TSB done, but with 41XXX to far to get it so kinda stuck till i get the money to lift it, which is gunna take sooooo long.

Don't the dealers get paid by TOYOTA when they do TSB's? I don't understand why they aren't llining people up to do them all...?

 

Yes they get paid, but it is a lower rate for warranty work.

 

Hi Foxy...I actually like playing in the sand.. Ba-Rum-Bum Tishhh I haven't heard, "Chic" in awhile. But anyways, Even though they are getting a lower rate, they should be happy their doing some work. I mean the Manager isn't doing the work anyways...I think a lot of them feel powerful knowing thier TSB's and it's Kinda confidential.

Then this, geek comes out with his Laptop and Tacoma and suddenly, the Boss isn't so mighty...

All crybaby dealers can swallow wads & eat shit about doing TSBs on half ass shit known to be problematic for multiple model years & the crap parts that aren't phased out at the factory. This has been issue since 2005. NOT OUR PROBLEM whether they get paid or how much they get paid for warranty work!!!!!!! Dealers can take their whining & fits up with Toyota! Glad the OP is getting what shoulda been there to begin with. Make sure every TSB possible is done while you're at it. Print out all of them & make sure the dealer knows you'll be back if/when they surface if they try to blow you off without doing every one of them.

 

Technically they should be happy...but it really depends on the dealership and how they work their work loads and what has priority and how much work they happen to have that day....
I didn't have a problem with them doing my TSB work, then they screwed it up and were more then helpful in fixing it, even giving me a rental without me having to ask. They also didn't have much work lined up when I went in either.
My bf has been a service tech for over 10 years, I get to hear him b!tch everyday about the things that come in and the things people say.

 

My issue revolves around the company trying to slide by on known issues & the dealerships crying about having to do warranty work because of what bullshit keeps going on at the plant that ends up eating into the dealerships profit margin & that both factory/dealers want it to end up in consumers' laps at consumer's expense. Techs should be getting paid the same whether it's warranty work or not. If not then, well, that's just a whole other pile of bullshit. The work being done correctly is the only tech related concern I ever have, not whose gonna pay for it or whether the factory should've done it differently to begin with. Hoping techs get paid same all the time for working & not getting pinched by the politics of it all.

 

I don't know how it works for all dealerships, but out here they get paid less for warranty work than for work the customer is paying for.

I'm not saying the tech is not going to do the job the correct way the 1st time, they are because if it comes back due to him not doing it correctly the 1st time he has to fix it again but without being paid for it the 2nd time or being paid very little for it the 2nd time around depending on what the problem is.
With mine they installed the correct shocks but put in new 3 leafs instead of 4, because the Parts Department sent the wrong parts out, but the Tech should have checked it himself, the complimentary rental car came out of the Part Departments funds and the Tech had to re-do the work for no pay when he could have been spending that time working on another vehicle and getting paid. Also if it had been just the Techs fault then the rental cost would have come out of the Service Dept funds and the Tech has to hear about that from his boss.

A whole other issue is all the people out of warranty expecting to get a TSB done, the dealership has to have approval from Toyota to do warranty work when the warranty is out, if they don't then the dealership has to pay for it and also pay the tech to do the job which then causes the dealership to lose money and prices go up and that gets passed on to all of us.

I never understood how all those things worked at the dealership until I had to hear about it daily from my bf. The techs do get screwed, plain and simple.


Also Toyota made the Tacoma to appeal to the largest amount of people which is why it has the 'plush, car like ride'. Think about how many people wouldn't even have complained to their dealership if they hadn't read all the threads about the suspension TSB, it seems most people who got it done hadn't even experienced a problem.

The OP didn't have the problem noted in the Suspension TSB, he had "squeaky springs" all they technically had to do was put some grease in there and send him on the way. The TSB is based on customer complaint, he didn't complain about a 'harsh ride' so they could not have upgraded his leaf packs to 4 packs without prior approval from him.

 

Fck his attitude about the "f'ing bloggers." Evidently he has years of success under his belt by taking advantage of uninformed consumers. It is each individuals responsibility to know how ever much they want to know before making a purchase or requesting a service. Some of us do our homework and get what we rightfully deserve while others get screwed by people like this guy.

Foxy is correct. I did go in there w/ "squeaky leaf springs." Then I read about "harsh ride" on this forum. Would not a Tacoma owner want his/her truck to be the best that it can be? I do pull trailers, I do go off-road, and I do put stuff in the back of my truck. I thought the suspension was weak, but it was a Tacoma. I had a Dodge Cummins 3/4ton. I just thought that was how the suspension was. When I read about "harsh ride" on this forum I thought I would have that problem addressed.

I am not one to complain, but I thought it was in my best interest.

The service writer had the wrong attitude about it and that was poor customer service, but at least you are getting both of your problems addressed.

Just to follow-up. Rockwall Toyota did complete the TBS for the leaf springs. It started off rocky, but ended well. They had my truck from Monday thru Friday. They were in no hurry. Monday was raining so they needed the truck to dry-out to diagnose the problem. Tuesday, ordered the parts. Wednsday, hump day...take it easy. Anyway, by Friday it was completed. So far...so good. No holes drilled in the side of my truck and the wheels have not fallen off.

 

if the dealer trys to change your mind by talking about [ a harsh ride], tell them you would love your truck to ride like a log wagon.

 

They told me that and tried to talk me out of it. I am dropping the truck off Thursday to get the work done.
