Don't be sorry!! We knew we were taking a risk of wasting $ on the Civ repairs, but I don't regret it AT ALL! We were smart about it and only spent a small amount, knowing it was a gamble. It could have easily turned out differently and given us another year or more! It was a worthwhile risk and unfortunately it didn't pan out this time. No biggie! We knew her end was near. She's at peace now. :D

you can sell the car for scrap value and get a few hundred dollars to get your money back on what you spent on it.

I doubt if there is much demand for parts from a 93 "anything" much less a civic lol. but it wouldn't hurt to do some web surfing to see if anyone is looking for a parts car, try posting it on craigs list.

if you still have the box and receipt, pull the axle shaft out and try to return it lol

Exactly. Well said. Thanks for the support cosmic! :)

BTW, on a totally different topic, can I call you cosmic spiders from now on? :D Every time we see a giant spider in the yard now, we think of you and call you cosmic spiders.

Ha ha ha!!! That's one of the first things I said to Eric!! Pull that CV shaft off and return it!! Hell, after what they put us through with the back and forth over their crappy reboxed parts, I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty. That thing probably has less than 30 miles on it! It was so funny how Eric looked at me when I said that, like he was totally horrified that I suggested he undo all of his hard work!! He CLAIMS he threw away the packaging already. Not sure if I believe him or not..........;)

PS: Wonder if we can scrape the rubber cement off and save it?

Thanks for the idea about trying to sell parts/as a scrap car guys!! Hadn't thought of that, I love that idea!! :)

Just called our insurance company to put the Civic policy to sleep, so that we aren't paying anything on it but still get our multi car discount. Got quotes for the cars we are considering, and they are not bad. And found out that they offer auto loans, and pending what year of car we'd get, we might be able to get a better rate through them than the credit union, hurray!! :D

I kinda just want to go buy a freaking Yaris and be done. Gotta at least put one through it's paces on a test drive first though.

anything you get, you will be better off getting new so it has a warranty for many years, the last thing you need is buy a car and have to start fixing stuff on it.

eric would get used to the cramped yaris after a while but I cant see the logic in not getting the corolla instead? for $2000 more it has tons more room inside pluse the yaris gets 30/37mpg while the corolla gets 28/37mpg so hardly any difference in mpg or price there.

and good god the corolla looks soooo much better

:D, did Eric say hell no to the Juke lol. Seriously, go drive one, even just to waste time. It's extremely fun for what it is.

Put the word "vintage" in front of the add description. some goof will buy it.

Sorry to hear the Civic bought the farm. I was sure it was gonna run a while longer.

I know, the Corolla is way prettier and way nicer inside I'm sure. And not as sketchy on the interstate I'd imagine!!

But having a hatchback would really be super nice. Knowing us, whatever we get, we'll keep it for at least 15+ years!! So when I think of the 8 bazillion times in the next 15+ years that I'll put dogs in and out of that car, or load giant bags of library books & movies in and out of that car, or load giant Costco quantities of groceries and beer in and out of that car, the hatchback sounds absolutely dreamy. At the moment, Eric would drive the car to work so I'd be doing all that stuff in the truck and it wouldn't matter if it was a hatchback. But in the future, there's a good chance that could change. If I go back to work, or if he gets a job closer to home, or eventually when we are forced to replace the Taco, or a whole bunch of other possible stuff, there's a good chance that car would turn into a grocery getter/dog hauler instead just being a commuter.

Haven't completely ruled out a Corolla yet though. They are definitely my top pick for sedans. I feel like it's down to one of those or a Yaris.

I like this idea! You guys could be right - there could be someone loony enough to go for it!

Actually, a lady from Eric's work has a teenage son that asked if he could buy it just a couple days ago. I told him there is no way in hell we are selling it to that kid!! It's toast. I imagine he'd change his mind anyway, in light of the tranny development.

the trunk of the corolla is bigger then the storage area you will have with the hatchback, plus you have the back seat as well.

dolly will also be much safer in the corolla in an accident, with the hatchback she will go flying from one end of the car to the other with no padding or protection, and that's not good for her chances of not being seriously hurt

I agree in ways, but you aren't talking about much size difference between these two vehicles. It's not like a Corolla is that much bigger than the Yaris. Both feel small. Both will result in dog launching if she doesn't have her own seat belt, both have small storage areas, and both aren't really that safe when hit by anything larger than a Tacoma... Not to disagree for the sake of disagreeing, but both rate exactly the same on IIHS testing.

add the fact that the yaris is a very cramped space for driving with little to no leg room, and the corolla is very roomy and not cramped at all, why buy a yaris over the corolla then? if they were short little teen agers then the yaris would fit them better but she already said eric has serious concerns about the cramped space of the yaris.

I am a firm believer of buying a vehicle that has more interior room over one with less. especially when there is no advantage to it.

none of this matters anyway, as seen in the past, she will change her mind 12 more times before buying anything lol

jen, time to stir the pot :stirthepot: tell eric to drop the tranny oil pan and see if the filter is clogged. if the filter got clogged that might be all that is wrong with it, if not it didn't cost anything to check it. maybe the civic isn't really dead???????

I never found the Corolla roomy. Maybe if you're 5'2" :). Either way to me each is small. I wouldn't buy either to be honest because other companies are making much more effective use of the same space. When you buy those two cars you are buying the name and reputation for reliability and hoping it holds out.

Funny that you mention that. I was waiting for it!! Figured it'd be you!!

We KNOW it's toast this time though. He was stopped on a hill, and when he went to accelerate to go, the car started rolling backwards even though the engine was revving and trying to go. He got it off the road and called AAA. Then the tow driver said he had to try starting it to follow protocol, and Eric was :rofl:as he watched the guy start rolling backwards and panic. Eric said there were all sorts of terrible grinding metal noises. She's all done @keakar . We gotta let her rest in peace buddy. Everybody have a drink in honor of the Civ's 15 years of service tonight.
