2015 DCSB entune speaker upgrade

Hi all. I upgraded my stock entune speakers today. I bought the following from crutchfeld. Great service and price. They threw in mounting adapters and speaker wire adapters.

They sound much better. Install was easy on the front and not bad on the back. I had to modify the rear mounting adapters, which was a bit of a pain. But overall. Not bad.

The sound is much cleaner and crisp. I would like a bit more power and bass but these will do.

I thought I would post to help anyone wondering if swapping just the speakers will make a difference. Lots of posts both ways...they will or they won't. Know that new speakers will be a big improvement. I will be adding a sub and amp later but pleased for now.

 

One day soon I hope to upgrade my speakers on my 2014 AC.
I will start with the front, then decide what I want to do with the crap speakers above the head liner.
Now that I have finished a home project I am almost ready to purchase the fronts.

I would like to add rear speakers, will see how the new fronts sound first.

GX602 for the rears. How was the fitment on the front 6X9 and what kind of modifications had to be done for the GT7-6?

 

Did you disconnect your tweeter on top of the door? I'm looking to go with 6x9 on my front doors and not sure if I need components or just slap a 6x9 in there and forget about the stock tweeter

 

Hi no I left it connected. Read a few reviews where the taco owner left it. Door panels come off easy so figure I can configure without much drama.

 

Hi the speaker adapters in the front needed a couple of screw holes drilled for the speakers. Oddly, two holes are off a it. Mounting to the door is spot on. On the rears, I had to dremmel out some mounting tabs. Once out, the speakers mounted up easily. I am guessing the adapters are universal so some tweaking is required. After that, it all mounted easily. Hope that helps.

Yup, knew that. The title means truck with entune, changed speakers out. My point was that you can improve sound with better speakers and not change the head unit. Yeah, spend more and the sound is better, but some of us do not want to toss the entune head unit. Cheers!

He was just trying to help you out OP. I knew what you meant, but it was not the best way to word your title or post.

Your original title and post makes it sound like you think you have "Entune" speakers, as in an option package like the factory JBL Premium Sound System that is an option on all Toyotas. When in fact Entune is only the Display and Vehicle Systems Control on the newer equipped Toyotas. For instance, my Tacoma has a Factory Touch Screen Head Unit, but not the Entune Vehicle Systems Control or Navigation. My Tacoma also does not have the Stock JBL Premium Sound System. It has the factory base speakers. Neither of you communicated well or listened to what the other was saying.

In my experience with Toyotas there are two ways to get better sound from your stereo. From my 2008, Tacoma, 2010 Tacoma, and 2010 Corolla S I changed out the Head Unit that was a plane jane AM/FM/CD Player to a Pioneer AVIC X930BT and that alone made a world of difference. Then I added an amplified subwoofer, which made even more of a difference. Now that I have the 2013 with the touchscreen non-Entune system with stock base speakers I don't want to change out the Head Unit. I have already added a line-out converter, a mono amp and Subwoofers. Now I just need to figure out which speakers I want to change to and add an Amplifier to power them. This should make a big difference in the sound stage.

 

Uhmm...Crutchfield advisor recommended the following for my 2015 trd sport

So, I just swapped out the factory speakers with the recommended JBL speakers from Crutchfield while keeping the OEM head unit. It's true, huge improvement in sound quality.

I am going to add a slim/under seat powered subwoofer next week. Thinking of getting this:

GX963 instead of the G796 that you originally were recommended.

How was the fitment in the adapters?

 

Yes, I went with the

$89 GX963 300W 6" X 9" 3-Way GX Series Coaxial Car Loudspeakers (Pair of 2, 600W Total),black

GX963. It was on sale and more RMS than what crutchfield recommended.
The fitment on the GX963 wasn't a direct fit and I had to drill one hole on the adapter.

Overall, I am very happy with the replacement. I think it will be even better after I added a small powered sub just to gain a little more bass

 

The GX936 is also more efficient and running at 2.3Ohms Impedance as compared to the 4.0Ohms of the G796.

 

Now I am thinking of adding a Kenwood powered sub listed above.
Does anyone know if the factory HU has RCA output in the back?

 

It does not. I am using a scosche 4 Channel Line Out Converter. I tapped into the factory speaker wires behind the head unit and then ran a wiring harness into the center console where I mounted the Line Out Converter. I did this for two reasons. Firstly so that I could easily adjust the channels as needed and secondly in anticipation of going with an Audio Control LC6I at some point. I have an older Bazooka EL-1500 powering three MTX Thunder 6000's in a box setting on my back seat. They are 15 years old so I decided to give Mr Marv to build a custom behind the passenger rear seat enclosure housing a JL Audio 10TW3-D4 for me.
