It's the smog pump. I kinda like the sound it makes. It gives the truck some character. It sounds to me like a tin lizzy when I shut her down...cough...cough...pptttzzzhhhhhhh.

Getting some funny replies in here about the evap canister purge pump noise.

Maybe it's really the ancilliary kazoo bellows making that sound.

That doesn't even make any sense. Your annoyed because a part of the engine system is doing its job?

As others have stated. Totally normal. Secondary air pump.

Don't worry about it. Chics will think you have a supercharger...

Yeah if you listen very intently, on a super quiet night, you can hear the environment screaming in agony.....

LOL Heck no. But I think a Civic is. ;) I'm driving a Tacoma though... which I didn't buy because it's "green". I just don't see how electric (powered by coal plants) or hybrids (with lithium batteries) are actually green.

Not trying to pick a fight though! I suspect hydrogen (once it's got the bugs worked out) will likely be the greenest option. But I'm a muscle car fan so...

I agree with hydrogen being difficult... and a long way off potentially! But imagine emissions of oxygen and water alone? That's pretty dang green.

Just FYI - The 2015 Prius now uses Lithium-Ion batteries. Lighter weight, last longer, but batteries in general aren't good for our environment.

Toyota will roll out lithium batteries in their new revamped Prius for 2016. If you want a real muscle car, try driving an all electric Tesler.

Tesla, in my opinion, is the only company making an attractive electric car. The rest are, well, hideous. But they also sought out the production of an electric sports car. So the design was obviously done from a totally different perspective.

Still I prefer a car that goes, "glug glug glug".
