Well I will say this, I have 5100's all around, 1" lift in front and new leaf packs and coil springs and it rides like new. I may add 1" lift shackles soon if the back starts sagging much. Heading to alignment shop in a few minutes and maybe tire shop after that. :yay:

My daily driver has extended travel Kings up front and Alcans and Foxes for the rear.

    Its awesome.

I don't flog it like Frankenstein.

Totally worth it. Rides so awesome. Much better then Frank ever did with 5100s...

While yes you don't need the top of the line. I still think its great to invest in better and is worth it.

Thank you "Roll Tide" for chiming in with some actual common sense. Very little of it in this thread lately.

Tacoma2015 is properly focusing on his education, rather than pimping out a truck. That can come later when
he has more time and money. Then he can afford to 'invest' his hard-earned money on useless stuff like competition-level suspension components on a DD.

You never get you're money back on vehicles stuff. Unless you happen to buy something that is rare. And then you never enjoy it anyways...

But for me. Id rather ride in my truck comfortably every day. And have shocks/coil overs that will last 20-50k easily AND i can rebuild them. And if...okay..more like when then if..i start offroading Igor. I have the suspension to back it up and do it well already. AND i can tune it by revalving it.

VS a monotube gas shock that lasts...not very long. I got 6 months out of my 5150s before they started puking oil and 1.5 years out of the 5100s before they started puking oil. Have to replace the whole shock. Can tune them.

    Not a good investment...IMO

    I'm confused.

You are in college...great! This means that you are aware of the benefits of higher education. Why are you bothering with saving money for any lift? Just concentrate on your education and getting a great job. I would only worry about regular maintenance and gas. No truck modification is important enough to take money away from your education.

I get it, we love to mod out vehicles, but some things need to come first. I just modded my first truck with an ARB type bumper. It took me 25 years after college to do it, but I got to do it exactly like I wanted. Believe me and any of us old timers, 25 years goes by in a blink.

Just looking back at the time you wasted commenting and responding to these post kinda worries me.

Listen! Go to class, study, graduate and become my boss!

$40 really isn't that much. I can make that in a 5 hour shift. But the shocks I got have a limited lifetime warranty. But If they last at most a year I will be happy. It wouldn't hurt changing out the rear shocks though.

I have a 3 hour break until my next class. If I have homework I will do it, but I don't have nothing as of right now. I do enjoy modding my truck and surely but slowly I will upgrade her, just not at a fast rate. I'm saving up to $1500 until I actually get my lift. So I'm not worrying to much about money as of right now.

And you didn't even bother on getting a warranty fixed up with bilstein with your rear 5100 shocks?

Well, my seats are fully welded and in place. Next job is CV boots and manual hub regreasing. Then if I still have time, I'll relocate the shocks to the axle tube so they are like this / \ on my next day off

I wondered about that, the tires I have now are slightly worn on the inside but not to bad. I bought the 1yr/ unlimited mileage alignment at Sears so once the suspension settles some more I will take it back. The tires I had were 265/70/16 Cooper AT3's but I am going with the Dynapro atm in 265/75/16. Will post pic in a bit.

Seems like a decent highway AT tire and really inexpensive, Very similar to the Silent armors and Adventure with Kelvar by Goodyear.
From what i can see they have killed off the Silent armor 16 inch options and really most others most likely in favor of the Adventure Kevlar.

Shit dude. Im in college full time and work part time to pay rent. Work you're ass off in the summer is the key. I usualy work 2-3 jobs then for trips and truck parts. I started building Frank my Freshman year of College.

Its do able. Just look at how you spend your very small amounts of free cash and assess it. I don't drink or do any drugs. Thats more money in my pocket.
