That's so weird! I actually like the way they look in the pic in your link (other than the yellow!) but other photos I've seen of them, I wanted to barf. Looked like a jellybean on wheels! Hmmm. Wonder if the styling is a little different on different years/models?

Nah. Nevermind. Just looked at more pics. I can't get past the windshield having that pancake look. Stupid, I know. But I hate the way that looks. To me, the HRV doesn't have that look.

what about the tank I gave you a link for? its very roomy inside and no matter how bad the accident you get into, I doubt it will even scratch the paint on it lol

seriously, just don't go there with you mind set on one car, go there with a target of what it costs and how good the mpg arte then make up your mind while looking at them in person and seeing if your knees are up in your chest while driving it because its too cramped.

I'm out. I doubt Jen will buy anything but the HRV now. She's like a train on a track with the whole Honda AWD thing and TBH if she can afford it that HRV is a way better truck than the Fit simply because AWD. Best of luck on the purchase

the fit is also an AWD vehicle, the base model is 2wd with an option to upgrade to AWD if you want it plus its the same basic shape and style vehicle at about a $4k savings

when I see the HRV pictures from the side it looks like the same pancake windshield design of the fit and the corolla because all new cars have that low profile long windshield for less wind resistance and better mpg.

@ Jen - just be sure to park a fit right next to the HRV and see how different they are or aren't for the price

    Yee of little faith!!

You should know by now that you can count on me to change my mind at least 50 more times before we actually buy something!!

This really is the most interested I've been in anything we've considered so far. But no way would we make up our mind until we drove it and talked about it. Talked about it a lot. This car is at the tippy top end of what we set out to spend. We'll want to be sure we are gonna be very happy with it for a looooooooooooooooooong time. :D

I think the Fit is FWD only, but it'd probably still be just fine for us in that regard. The cost savings vs. the amount of times we'd wish we had the AWD would kinda balance out, so that part is flexible to me. Kinda like a sunroof. Plus my FWD Accord tackled some knarly snowstorms in VT like a champ!!!

    BUT.

Still not liking the jelly bean shape of them. It's the windshield.

your right, my mistake, I was looking at the HRV which is 2wd with option to AWD

so the base model HRV with AWD starts at $22k and the 2wd version starts at $19k

what bugs me is they don't give the mpg for the AWD version which you know is less then the 2wd listed mpg ratings

If you really hate it,,just wait until it is fully engulfed before making the call.

Can make a Yugo vanish when you fill it with 7 leaf bags of Acete,,so I've been told by friends. I think these newer crops of disposables are a bit tougher than 80's tech and a hell of alot more money.

Seen some burned out hulks after one big blaze went thru by the freeway,,not much left but puddles.

Darn. I failed at convincing Eric to go tonight to test drive an HRV. He cracked a beer before I could even say hello. :drunk: It's Friday, what did I expect?

Plan is to go bright and early in the AM to drive one.

Other thoughts I'm having about this car compared to a Yaris: on one hand, a cheaper car (the Yaris) would put us in a better position financially when it's time to (gulp) replace the Taco. But on the other hand, the HRV would be better because there are some trips we could use it for instead of the Taco, which would NOT be possible in a Yaris. So maybe we could extend the Taco's life in that regard, which would be super awesome. We aren't off roading on every trip we take (example, driving to visit family in the Midwest! :D going snowboarding, going to the coast, etc), so the Taco could get a break at those times and the HRV could do the work. A Yaris would never leave the city limits as far as I'm concerned! Also, when I think about how I'll feel when the Taco dies someday, then think of our only remaining car being a Yaris, vs. an HRV, the HRV wins for sure. At least we could still do a few things if the Taco was down. So, all in all, it seems like it kinda balances out, right?

Spend more to get the HRV - tougher to afford a nice replacement truck if needed anytime soon, but could prolong the life of the truck we already have and adore.
Spend less to get the Yaris - easier to afford a nice replacement truck if needed anytime soon, but the truck's life would be shortened because it would still do all driving except the good ol' daily commute.

The first year production thing is kinda the only big thing that's nagging at me. Eric too. But then we both keep saying, if there was any car we'd gamble on in that regard, this would be the smart one to gamble on.

Have any of you ever bought a new car in it's first year of production? Did you have regrets later?

Brought a Juke first year of production and only had it a year. I've had two F150's though in the first year of a new model with no problems.

OK TW, after talking more, unless it sucks on test drive tomorrow, we are 99.9% sure about the Honda HRV. The Toyota Yaris will also receive a test drive tomorrow.

So, Toyota fans - do you advise that we go for the Toyota Yaris or Honda HRV? Hoping to make a decision tomorrow night, so get your vote in now!!

    HRV...

Isn't the fairer comparison between the RAV and the HRV... though the RAV is a bit bigger...

    I'll shut up now :D

Oh, and Jen I sort of hate you now. Jokingly of course. I started to remember the fun times I would have racing around town in a joke. I hope it found a good home. Tomorrow I'll just have to race around in the Tacoma and hear the S/C to remember why I traded it in :burnrubber:

@Sterdog , the HRV is somewhere between the Yaris and RAV 4 IMO - size wise, cost wise, features wise, all of it really. But finally, Toyota is coming up with a crossover type car! Just saw this tonight. I think this would be the more fair comparison:

    http://www.hrvforum.com/forum/297-honda-hr-v-news/14322-toyota-responds.html

Random question TW - what does everyone think about CVT transmissions? How are they different from automatic transmissions?

OK, changed my mind. Going to fix the Civ and do this to it instead of getting an HRV. This will also create a new career for me - race car driver! :D
