This is so sad you guys. Been searching for old pics of the Civ and I have none, except this one! I probably have 100 of the Taco!! Poor Civ. This was a rare heavy snowstorm for Portland area. We get tons of snow in the mountains but very rarely get any at all down here in the valley. The little Civ was buried!! Even the Taco was kinda buried.

    Holy crap guys.

It's gonna be the best (or worst, pending how ya look at it!) day ever to test drive a Yaris. It's crazy windy here, with a good chance of rain. Winds over 20 MPH for the better part of the day!!! Considering I figured a deep breath could blow a Yaris away, this outta be pretty interesting :D I actually kind of feel sorry for the salesman now - being forced to ride in a Yaris during a time like that? More than anything though, I can't stop  when I think about how ridiculous it's going to feel to have 3 large adults in there!!! Yep, definitely excellent circumstances to really see how the little tiny car performs.

Wish us luck guys!!! Cross your fingers that we make it home

    A) alive
    B) with a decision
    C) without any puppet stories

    Happy Saturday TW!

Yes, there was an issue for your model truck, Jen. You have the 1st gen Tacoma like me, so my premade assemblies won't work. And the cost of you shipping your spindles to me to get the new bearings pressed in would be just too much. Shipping alone would cost you close to $300 round trip. I would do as suggested and remove the spindles yourself, then take them, and a new bearing and seal, to a reputable shop that knows how to do these correctly.

CVT is fine. They hold up pretty well if they are taken care of.

This explains a CVT very well:

that seams, just by looking at it, like it might be something that would be needing regular maint to replace those slats every 50-75k miles from the chain wear.

do you know what they recommend for maint on those things?

    :notsure:

My friend has had her Juke for 3 years and about 100K. No issues with the CVT. I believe most of the drums now are coated with carbide or extremely hard steel and the belt is almost pure kevlar so the wear isn't very rapid. About the biggest thing to learn with CVT is the throttle. Since there's no gears there is no shifting, and for some people it's really hard not to speed without the shifting references.

Just cleaned our stuff outta the Civ. Eric had this great Allman Brothers CD playing at the time of the transmission failure. He doesn't want to keep the CD - superstitious I guess. Me too kind of. Too bad, I loved that album! :(

I had to start it and put it in gear to see for myself. I knew it would haunt me in the back of my mind in some tiny way forever, wondering how bad it was since I never witnessed the badness. Wow. It's toast. Starts just fine, engine sounds fine. But then you put it into drive and all these horrible noises start happening. Then I put it back into park and the noises continued til I shut it off. She's really, really done this time. :(

Wonder if our local OReilly will go out of biz now that we aren't fixing the Civ anymore?

Good news is, we are still super excited about the HRV. And that takes a lot of the sting outta letting the Civ go! :)

He said this was playing super loud the whole time he and the tow driver were getting it situated. Must have been pretty strange.

One of my favorites. It's one of my prime movers when running on the elliptical machine.
