TRD intake air temperature

    URD's cold air intake obviously has the filter placed in the ideal location for grabbing the coldest possible air, but this past weekend I noticed that the TRD system isn't too far behind in terms of performance.

    Using the factory outside air temperature reading on the overhead console as a reference point, the ScanGauge showed the intake air temperature to be only 1 to 5 degrees higher than the outside air temperature when moving above 25 mph. While sitting in traffic I never saw the intake air temperature rise more than 10 degrees above the outside air temperature.

    For those of you looking for a good CAI but are worried about the exposed filter on the URD system, TRD really did come up with an effective design.

    I won't be buying a URD anytime soon. Some kid on TN hydrolocked his Taco off roading in less than 1ft deep water with the URD even though he had a dry charger.

    If you want bang for the buck the AFE Stage 2 is the same as the TRD ...same mfg I do believe, but on ebay you'll find vendors that will knock off some $$ because its not labeled TRD.

    Now the AFE drop in for 60 bucks vs. the AFE complete CAI for $320 is the question.
    My thoughts are for the difference of 260 you get 4-5% more hp out of the engine which for that kind of $$ could be worth it as well as the benefits of the increased MPG by 1+. And if you decide to sell the AFE CAI (TRD) you can easily get $200 for it so it doesn't depreciate all that much if your willing to put the old stuff back on. I was waiting for the AFE group buy but if that thing doesn't happen to soon I'll be getting the complete CAI.

    I like the idea of hitting the gas and the truck actually making you feel like your moving...

    I doubt it was 1 ft all the way through and I doubt he was going slow. Either way, I don't drive through more than 11.5" of water. :rolleyes:

    I actually noticed a good jump in power and i'm VERY critical. The only thing I would advise (but to each is own) I would invest in a Turbo muffler because I feel like my truck is to loud!! My Pitbull can hear me coming home a mile away :eek:

    I have been wanting to take my suspension to the next level... Any suggestions?

    Fortunately for my wallet, Class 7sx requires some stock suspension components. I'll consider upgrading in the future but for now I'll run what I've got. :p

    I'm not sure what can be added to the 6" ProComp kit. If you're looking for straight-up performance, I'd recommend dropping the truck back down to a 3" lift to keep the center of gravity low and cut the fenders/body/whatever as needed to clear the 35" tires.
