Well, I've had my 2013 PreRunner for almost exactly 2 years, so I thought I'd give synopsis of what has transpired in that time.

First, my truck. It's a base PreRunner 2.7/auto bought new with all factory equipment. It was a dealer transfer, so it showed 235 miles on the odometer. Only additions are a set of N-Fab Rock Rails, a class IV receiver hitch and Curt wiring harness, a factory bed mat, and XM radio kit from wmfanstore.com.

I've used Toyota Care for all oil changes and still have the original Dunlop AT-20s. At the last fill-up, I had 35,502 miles. Tires should last another 8-10,000 miles. Only other work performed on the truck was a recall to replace valve springs in the fall of 2013. Oh, and a tree fell on it during a severe storm, so it has been to the body shop to repair some minor damage.

My longest road trips were 2 round trips from Central Texas to Denver, with a total distance of over 2000 miles.

Allowing for the original mileage, I've tracked 35,267 miles over the past 2 years. In that time, I've filled the truck up 127 times I've used 1840.495 gallons, which comes out to an average of 19.16169 miles per gallon.

My best mileage on any tank was 25.0 with another tank showing 24.7. There were 46 tanks with an average over 20 mpgs. There were 7 tanks that came in less than 17.0, and 6 of those were in December.

On the first road trip in August 2014, I towed a loaded 4x8 UHaul trailer (furniture for me recent college graduate son) from central Texas to Denver and averaged 17.7 mpgs on the way up. On the 2nd road trip, I towed a loaded 5x8 UHaul trailer (same son, plus additional furniture) from Denver to central Texas in December 2014 and averaged 16.3.

Love my truck. I'd get the same model with the same features if I were doing it again.

Haha  it's cool that you kept track of it all though. If I ever bought a new truck I might try that.

I like your record keeping. I do the same, in Excel. Doesn't matter to me that I normally buy used. I just start with wherever it's at and go from there.

One of the few vehiles I've bought new was an '04 Highlander, now with over 100k. Every tank recorded, each year averaged and a running lifetime average. Road trips are sub averaged to be seen on their own.

Of course all other items are recorded as well. All PM items, fluids, tires, wear items, etc.

I was a bit disappointed last year though. I had a taillight bulb fail, and valve cover gaskets start leaking.

+1 The "little" book + repair receipts+maint. records = $$$$ when sold to a private party instead of trading

I wish I kept one other thing in my little book...how much I spent for each tank of fuel. Knowing that, plus what I spend on oil and filter change and tire rotation now that my Toyota Care has run out, would let me figure out what my operating cost per mile would be.
