TRD supercharger availability update

Ingersoll Rand 1/2 Titanium max series is what I used.

 

I already called to cancel & refund my extended warrenty due to the TRD SC discontinuation.
I'm so pissed that I almost want to trade my Toyota for a 15 Nissan Xterra 6sp.

Haven't decieded to cancel yet.

 

My electric impact couldnt do it...ended up just doing the sketch way some have done it and just putting a breaker bar on the bolt head and then laying the bar on the frame and just trying to start it for a second to get it try to crank. Took about 5 tries of cranking and the bolt loosened. I must say, having two people for your install makes it waaayy easier. If my neighbor hadnt come over to help, it would have taken me a good solid 2 days to do it instead of a solid 16 hour day

 

That is what I've ended up doing every time. Always works. I throw an old towel around the end of the breaker bar to not mar the finish off the frame.

if you dont have an impact with enough ass, a big chain wrench with a piece of old scrap serp belt works too. havent looked under my taco, but was a lexus tech for years, the other trick is to use a line punch or similar to wedge in the flex plate. the starter trick works, but once in a while bad things happen.

 

I had a giant breaker on there to try to break it off and it was just spinning the engine lol. The only option would have been a super high pressure impact or the starter trick. Leverage was just making it spin, even in 4th gear

 

oh i know, and being a manual makes it worse. im trying to remember what engine (vq or rb 2jz or something. i cant remember) the ARP crank bolt is silly like 180 ft/LB PLUS 180° .a chain wrench is the only way.

 

The crank bolt on ours is 204 lbs torqued lol.
At least thats what the new one was instructed to be torqued at

 

well there ya go. its always harder to get it moving than it is to keep it moving.

 

I just put the long torque wrench on it and had it in 4th gear, it took a couple tries to slowly pull until i got it to click around 205 ft/lbs without the crank rolling on me, but i got it.

I have used the starter trick in the past many times. Before I had an impact with some serious ass!

Last year I broke a crank bolt off in a 22r/20r hybrid that locked up.

 

My torque wrench only went to 175 lbs so I used the impact to put it on.

Normally all I torque is the head bolts and flywheel bolts. But for this truck I torqued everything to spec except the crank bolt.

 

Ugh... that sucks. What you do to remove it? Bolt extractor Or did you have to drop the bottom end and remove the crank out?

 

Luckily it broke at the bolts head vs deeper inside. And I had the engine on a stand. I ended up drilling, freezing it and using a bolt extractor. It came out way easier than I expected.

 

Nice, that's the only reason I don't like the using the starter trick is because of a possibility of the the crank bolt getting sheared off. Then it's a PITA.

 

I love these suckers. I use the 3/8 for everything. Only break out the 1/2 for a few jobs like rusted U bolts, and crank bolts etc.

Also for a budget impact. The 1/2 Pittsburgh earthquake is a pretty damn respectable impact. Its heavy as hell but it beat the shit out of the other 1/2 impacts I have minus the IR Titanium. It is a copy of the Ingersoll rand tgunder guns.
