Okay so right now I have 285/70r17 km2s with stock gearing. The tires actual measurement comes out to just under 33 inches tall. I love the tires on and off road performance but would like to go taller without having to regear. I'm thinking about going with the km2 285/75r17s for my next tires. They should measure out to be just under 34 inches.

Now I know it's pretty commonly agreed that 33s with stock gearing is fine but 35s lower gears are recommended. So are 34s going to feel closer to the 33s and be fine with stock gears or are they going to be more like the 35s that need new gears.

Also for anyone who has run them, will the level of trimming needed still be fairly minor like 33s or will I need to do more major trimming like many with 35s have done?

Also curious about weather or not the 285/75r17s will be any wider than the 285/70r17s? Tire calculator says no but manufacturers seem to vary on this

I would regear. But that's just me, and if you do might as well put in lockers.

I've got an e locker right now in the rear that has never let me down. My hope for the future is not to regear but instead put in either a crawl box or dual cases for off road but keep the tall gears for on road and rpms.

Another thing I looked up is the increased weight of the bigger tires is only about 3 pounds which is still 10 plus pounds lighter than a yoyo mt in 33

I'd say go taller. Then if you feel a significant lost of power (which you would get use to it after a few days of driving) then regear.

Last time I dropped the gearing in one of my trucks I had the pinion gear go out on me a number of times due to it being smaller and the added stress of the bigger tires. Don't want to deal with that again

I have 4.88 gears on 35 right now. Soon to be 37s. I never had a problem with my gears.

What is a fair price for having our trucks geared these days?

Manufacturer is the key. They do seem to vary. You'd think not since the dimensions should be 'standard'.

Assuming being built to the advertised measurements, 285 should be the width, on both of these, with just the sidewall ht changing due to the 70 vs 75 % change. (5% of 285)

Yeah I'm hoping someone on here has measured the two sizes of km2s side by side to give me exact measurements. Haven't found much in it on my own
