How do you know 4wd isn't working then? Did you put it on jackstands and test it?

You have two actuators. One on the diff and one on the Tcase. Easiest way is to put the truck in accessory mode, so key on but don't have the truck running, and crawl under there while someone pushes the button. You can hear it. I believe the light will still come on though even if one is bad.

If you have a broken axle..that should be obvious...

Where did you find those struts? That was a great idea for storage boxes.

Just put it in 4wd and make a slow sharp turn on pavement. If it binds, 4wd is working. If it doesn't it's not. 5 second test.

Many possibilities. Side gear, ADD stub shaft, cv, electronics, fuck even a vacuum leak can prevent 4wd from engaging.

Yea could be a lot of things. Sadly means you have to start pulling shit apart.

Wouldn't think vacuum though. His should be an electric actuator.

I have no idea what year he has. I know I fixed a vacuum leak on another truck in Moab this past summer that was doing the 2wd-low dance.

    oooooo that chances things man.

This happened to me this last trip a lot. The 4wd light wouldn't come on though so i knew something was just wrong. ANd then the light would come on anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 hour later and id have 4wd.

I defer to Jason. Check vacuum since its a J shifter.

    :luvya:

    Yea yea i know...

My 4x4 issue was a little different, I have a push button switch on my I shifter.
My 4x4 would not engage nor would the light come one however I could hear and feel the actuator trying to engage.
Turns out the front actuator on my front diff was stuck and needed a little persuasion to get it moving properly again.
The transfer case actuator was fine but it was adjusted as well.

You sure the problem wasn't because you switched to C rated KO2s?
